Hughes gets more grace than any other Habs GM in history. We're seriously getting people saying that "even if Barron busts, it was a good trade at the time, because we didn't know he would bust".

What GM is ever afforded that much leniency when making a trade? Their job is to determine what players will be good, and if the player is not good, it's probably not a good trade!
Hughes has been "winning" in the eyes of hf fans in value for small to medium impact trades. But when it comes to big decisions (coaching, team structure, drafting), its too early to tell or potentially mediocre.

Barron will be given every opportunity to earn a spot before he's waived. Trades are always a possibility and I'm sure that includes Barron but if we'll have to see what happens. Takes two to make a trade. I fully expect Mailloux to start next season in Laval, maybe even Reinbacher as well.

Romanov was the best defender at the WJC one year.

He was much better defensively and a lot more physical, which is key to being a defender. His value at the time was definitely higher than Barron's is now.
Yet, they never played him playoffs. In favor of Merrill? You overeating Romanov. He has no offense upside. Most he will be is a #5

Guhle light years ahead of Romanov.

Habs paid arm and leg for Barron. Hughes made the deal, wouldn't be wrong. They all say how great he is.
Romanov and Guhle had very similar results, roles, and age.

21-22 year olds playing full time roles 20+ minutes a night.

Guhle has a harder role, Romanov had better on ice results

i still remember habs fans praising romanov. hits like a truck.

out of the door and he never was any good.
Not all of us. A while back I had an exchange on here with an Isles fan about him, I was surprised they weren't thrilled with him. Apparently his first season was shaky but his second is better and he's adding some offense.

Guhle had 18 points in 44 games as a rookie. 21pts in 68 games this season.

Romanov had 19 points over 130+ games during his first two seasons

How da heck were his on ice results better?

Guhle played a lot better for us

Hughes paid a ton for Barron. He must been high on him. Can't see him giving up on Barron this quick.

Ghule is better then Romanov. Period.

Ghule has to defend against the best lines of the other teams and given our anemic offense, way too much time in our zone.

In two years Habs should at least 5 defenseman more valuable then Romanov. Not that there is anything wrong with him, it's just too many good defenseman coming up. It was a great move by Hughes.

He's there until the end of the AHL and NHL playoffs, for sure. But after that, waiver eligibility means he can't be sent back down without any risk... so Montreal's options are to keep him in the NHL, probably after having to move someone otherwise they'll have 8 NHL defensemen, or trading him, or risking him on waivers.

If there isn't much interest in trading for him, sending him down at the end of training camp might work, since that's the time of year when every team has kids and projects they want to give ice time to.

Good point on the waiver. Barron is going to need a hell of a camp to stay in Montreal; he'll need to oust Kovacevic with what else is in the pipes, IMO.

Guhle does have hard assignments. But how does one value bad results in a tough situation vs solid results in an easier situation. Because Guhle's overall results are not good. I'd value him more than what Romanov was at, but not by much. 10th overall pick for Guhle maybe compared to the 13th overall that Romanov got

not really, Hughes showed us he has no problem keeping 3 goalies all year, I don't see why he can't carry Barron as it's not like the Habs are going anywhere.
This is exactly what will happen, will start probably as the #7D, maybe the #6, but will be in the NHL the entire year and never waived. Probably gets 55-65 games with injuries to other players.

Might as well let Reinbacher and Mailloux cook in the AHL until they force our hand

Also Guhle > Romanov > Barron

literally no one wants him.

He has value, just a bit reduced from a late 1st at best, and does not command the return; it MUST be in currency a suitor will pony up

Again, a solid F prospect from Rangers like Sykora or maybe BMB
[McConnell=Barker]
OR
Robertson + not much else

that's it in 1:1
otherwise is a throw in in a package
