Detroit off to a rough start against Jersey.

4 other games on the go. 8 points available. Detroit will end the night 27 with a win and 28th if not. Those top 3 teams could all leave the 4 point window. Now, that would be lean.

Rank. Team - Games - Points (Row)

23. COL - 35 - 37 (16)
24. EDM - 36 - 36 (17)
25. MTL - 36 - 36 (15)

26. FLA - 36 - 35 (13)
27. VAN - 37 - 35 (15)
28. DET - 35 - 33 (11)
29. OTT - 34 - 30 (10)

Somebody needs to hit Ottawa with the defibrillator paddles. Or some really creative peer pressure. Because they're the only holdout not supporting the bottom 3 finish for Detroit.

To put this free fall in the standings into perspective, since the cap era began a team in the playoffs on Thanksgiving then made the playoffs nearly 80% of the time. The Wings were in the playoffs on Thanksgiving. Now they are not only not in the playoff picture but have managed to free fall 10 points out of it. I keep seeing it mentioned in articles that Blashill hasn't lost the room, guys are still playing hard, etc., but this tank should cost him his job well before the season is over.

The Wings are earning the tank label this year.

Currently battling Ottawa, Vancouver and Florida for the 3rd to last spot. Hopefully Ottawa gets going soon, they shouldn't be this bad

Getting pretty annoyed by Ottawa, I always tend to cheer for them in the play-offs and now they are somehow tanking better than us with a roster that is definitely a lot better than ours. Like, seriously I can't understand how this is possible.

Duchene has also become my most hated player, what a lousey guy, he should know that he was traded for to help the team but everything he does just looks so meh. He definitely has more in him, and he's showed that several times but atm he seems like the kind of guy that only collects pay checks.

Not worried about Ottawa. They'll go on a bit of a run, they always seem to. Just wish Florida would get their shit together. Don't think it's happening though.

Ottawa has so many distractions (Karlsson, Duchene, Melnyk) that they seemed destined to suck.
Florida - not sure what their excuse is.

Karlsson is a distraction? Are you saying that because of some silly trade rumor of him asking for teams or something? I'm pretty sure that rumor was false. Made HF trade boards blow up though.

Were we in the playoffs by P% or by pure standing? Because we could have played a few games more than some teams, inflating our points.

He said he was going to get full market value in his next contract.
Then came the trade list story.
These stories come in the midst of his worst season.

The story was Ottawa asked him for his no trade list, not Karlsson.

Florida and Van with wins. Habs not so much. 4/6. Respectable.

29. OTT - 35 - 30 (10)

Det vs Rangers. Detroit is in their own little pocket at 28th, but a win will bring them back with the group. 3 other games on the schedule that effect this.

Detroit plays NYR, PIT, OTT, FLA & TB then they sit idle for 5 days. It will be interesting to see where they sit at the start and end of their bye week.

It was nice to see Zetterberg pot that goal. I'm sure they needed a win in the room. The other relevant games went our way, so all good.

Ottawa & Colorado win. Oil get a point. 5/6. Even Buffalo put together a win.

The silver lining with Ottawa is we own their 2nd round pick(I think?). I don't want them to pick it up too much!

No kidding, wow. That's a nice surprise. Could basically be like an additional late 1st rounders.

Possibly 4 picks in the top-35 (Green?)... In a draft like 2018, that would be a rare opportunity for Wright & co to make a real impact.

Anyone else starting to think this draft is pretty overrated beyond Dahlin?

The lack of high end centers should knock it down a few pegs from how it was being talked about last year. Wise and Veleno were supposed to be top 5 guys. It probably got overhyped somewhat just because last year was a weaker draft.

But I think there are some good defenseman and some good wingers to be had. Svech is an incredible talent in his own right after Dahlin. It will have a hell of a 1-2 punch, at the very least.
