Right, but I think some are hoping for a top 3 pick, which will be difficult to reach, with all the teams playing lousy hockey at the same time.

I still think both Ottawa and MTL, possibly even Florida, will finish ahead of us. Only teams I can't see us being worse than are Buffalo and Arizona.

During the entirety of this thread, Detroit started in 27th, and is currently in 26th. The phrase, 'changes everything' seems a bit strong.

In the full season picture, couple wins doesn't change much but when looking at it as a daily tracker, couple wins is like 4-5 draft spots it seems. Without those last 2 wins, we're sitting in the Boquist spot (29th).

I would guess we'll be pretty lucky to draft in the top 5. Seems to me, Detroit is playing some pretty good hockey right now. We'll see how it all plays out.

11/14. SOLID

Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Carolina and Edmonton with wins.
Ottawa, Colorado and Vancouver with loser points.
Points for everyone.

Pitts and Ana out of range with wins.
Edmonton jumps ahead of us.

Rank. Team - Games - Points (Row)

21. PHI - 34 - 37 (15)
22. CAR - 34 - 37 (12)
23. COL - 34 - 35 (15)
24. VAN - 36 - 35 (15)
25. MTL - 34 - 34 (14)
26. EDM - 35 - 34 (16)
27. DET - 34 - 33 (11)
28. FLA - 34 - 31 (11)

3 games up tomorrow. 6 points available. Detroit will end tomorrow in the same 27 spot.

For anyone curious... the playoff odd site has us at 6.8%. Ugly.

4 out of 6. Not too bad. Plus Buffalo won but they're still 8 back.

All 8 other teams play tomorrow. 2 VS games so 14 points for this tracker. Detroit can finish into the break anywheres from 25 to 28. Top 3 teams can get ahead of the tracker. Florida can jump past us.

As far as the tank goes, it might be helpful for decision makers to see us sitting at 28 for the 3 day break.

On the other side of things.. the game against Boston is pretty important for anyone with playoff hopes. We'll either be 6 or 10 back of the atlantic 3 spot.

Just looked back at the nightly results. Looking at the other teams... they've managed to get 65 out of a possible 94 points since starting the tracker.

That's 69%. When you're talking about the bottom part of the league standings that's a super high percentage for points. I would have guessed 50% would have been a good outcome. 69% is great.

Detroit has gone 2-1-1 since starting this.

Looking ahead, if the wings ever get 4 points out of a playoff spot (7 points out now), I'll flip this tracker. Cause really, who cares if we draft 12th or 18th.

The bottom feeders have done a statistically incredible job of helping the odds for a Detroit high draft pick. And the longer the Wings go without enough of a run to get them near the playoff bubble, the higher the odds go on selling, particularly with Green.

While it's certainly still mathematically possible, catching Buffalo and/or Arizona feels a bit unrealistic. But a bottom 3 finish would guarantee picking 6th or higher, and still having an excellent chance at plucking a good to great defenseman.

Or getting ridiculously lucky and nabbing Dahlin. Oh, to dream...

Hopefully both Florida and Ottawa pass us, So we can slip to 29th overall need to be in the top 3 at the end of the season.

Regardless of what happens with all the other games, Detroit will be 28th at the end of the day.

I can't help but feel bad for the players. Effort levels are great. They are playing pretty good hockey. Just short on game changers.

I miss Datsyuk.

I miss Datsyuk too this team was at a whole another level when Dats was in the lineup, I knew as soon as he retired this team would have it's struggles and it will be even worse when Z hangs it up as well.

That's exactly the scenario you want, though. Players still giving max effort, but a talent level low enough to boost your chances at a game changing draft pick.

Agreed. Not interested in seeing the wings mail it in. Maybe the last 5 games of the year, but certainly not at the 35 game mark.

We were bottom 3 at some point last year as well if I recall...? Still (lottery) hopes spring eternal because we all know we aren't gonna be competitive again without a franchise cornerstone or two, and preferably at least one on defense.

I know, but I'd rather feel bad watching them try and come up short than be embarrassed watching them not try at all.
