I don’t mind Eastern, but it’s basically vinegar and pepper flakes.

It is and it's delicious. My Eastern style sauce is [REDACTED], [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED] and I've never had any complaints from my wife who prefers Western.

BTW a glaring omission from my Durham restaurant roundup is Copa. It's Cuban and it's delicious. At lunch their menu centers around various takes on Cuban sandwiches (my favorite is the Santiago with a side of rice with some of the pork drippings drizzled on top). At dinner their menu centers around Cuban dishes in a tapas format. The Albondigas Cubanas, Ropa vieja a la Americana, and Medianoches are all winners. Great cocktail menu, as well, with an emphasis on spirits made in NC.

Yes. Copa is incredible. I was nervous about the closure of Old Havana, but Copa does everything I loved about Old Havana and then some. Cocktails there are awesome too.

And water and hops are the backbone ingredients of every beer, but there are lots of watered down, bland beers out there made with water and hops.

It boils down to personal preference. Like I said, I don’t mind Eastern sauce, I just personally find most of them more bland. It’s not a 1 size fits all though as there are some western sauces I’ve tried that weren’t to my liking and some Eastern sauces that were better than others as well.

But vinegar and pepper are the most distinctive part of most eastern sauces I’ve tried, so I’m not sure why characterizing it that way is such a problem. Just like being very hoppy is a distinctive part of many IPAs and that’s how I characterize them. I fully realize there’s more to it than that in both cases, but for me those are the primary characteristics that stand out.

this was never really a serious debate. if it seemed that way, it's probably just because I'm bitter that I moved from a nice little melting pot of widely available barbecue styles (Raleigh, NC) to a place that seemingly only serves crappy renditions of any particular style your heart desires (Toronto, Ontario)

Well get ready. There are about to be several more. It's nice to see that my legacy continues to live on. I about lost my mind after that 9 year playoffless hiatus. There is a place here in Chatam right now 15-501 before Haw River near Bynum that is supposed to have legit BBQ. Will need to try it. Allen and Son's BBQ is the name of the joint. Always crowded too and looks like a hole in the wall. Those types of places are usually the best.

Rated a 4 out of 5 on Yelp and considered to be the best BBQ spot around here.

I'm gonna be planning a trip to your wonderful city from Jan 6th to the 10th. While I have an overall itinerary of what I wanna do, one question I do have is that I'm gonna going for the Notre Dame/NC State game basketball game on the 8th @ 7 PM

I also saw that NDs baseball team will be facing UNC the same day at 1 PM.

Do you think it would be definitely plausible to do a double header of both games? I know Raleigh to Chapel Hill is about 40 minutes. So it seems like it would be doable but a bit of a tight squeeze.

Looking at UNC's baseball schedule it looks like they are playing ND in March (6th-8th), not January. You had me thinking for a second, because I was certain the college baseball season doesn't normally start until February.

Now, if the games were on the same day, it would be plausible to go to both. Since, in this scenario the games would be on a Wednesday, the only thing that would need to be taken into consideration would be the "rush hour" traffic on I-40 coming from Chapel Hill to Raleigh.

The big question is are you attending the Canes game on Jan 7th?
