Heyman just reported Soria to the Bucs is a done deal. No word on what was traded.

So let's say the deal goes through.. where exactly does he fit? Splits time with Hughes in the 7th? Righty/lefty in the 8th to maybe reduce Watson's workload?

Soria will either be the 7th or 8th inning guy along with Watson.

Hughes is used a lot in the middle of innings when a pitcher is in trouble.

Checked Detroits message board and it seems they wanted a 2nd/SS. One of their posts suggested Hanson, no way that was going to happen. Not surprised JJ is going to the Tigers.

I should have put money down on Jones being dealt this year. His strikeout issue hasn't improved at all, but he still has that dynamism that makes him very appealing. As a SS/CF he was a long-shot to ever make it with the Pirates after we drafted a short stop in the first round for the second consecutive year.

You hate losing that kind of talent for a rental, but at the same time the odds of him actually producing up to his talent level is extremely minimal given that he's already struck out 113 times this year after striking out 132 times last year. For comparison's sake Pedro's only full season in the minors came with 129 strikeouts...Jones is set to eclipse that for the second time in two complete seasons.

Jones is a fringe MLB prospect. He doesn't swing a good enough bat to be anything more than that. K ratio is terrible. Not that great in the field to this point. 23 and just now entering AA. He's not a top 20 guy in our system IMO.

19th ranked by Pirates Prospects FWIW...but that was entering the season. The fact that his game hasn't progressed from last season means he'd be closer to 30 than 20 in a mid-season list.

The age thing is a bit unfair though, as he was drafted out of college. Unless you're a first rounder or a pure reliever, collegiate players rarely make it to the show before they're 24. The fact does remain he's a much lesser prospect at the same position as two guys that he's older than in our system.
