We have a solid prospect pool. What keeps us from being too high in their countdowns is the lack of that real gem of a prospect like a Bedard that you only get in a top 3 pick in a good draft year or EXTREME luck.

Kindof wonder what they have to say about our pool though. The rookies in the AHL are having really good years - Kemell, L'Heureux, Svechkov. Askarov is looking great. Molendyk looks like a great pick. Wood has been pretty vanilla but he is a set it and forget it type prospect.... hes gonna take a couple years. Fink has been amazing.

Meanwhile, the NHL prospects have been a mixture and shuffled around and demoted so a big ol' mixed bag but lots of promise.

Campbell and Haider are having nice senior outings. Should sign em and send to Milwaukee.

Sward is doing great and should get to Milwaukee as well next season

Roest likewise will be of age to advance to Milwaukee. He came on nicely after a slow start.

Gunnarwolfe isnt doing bad and has a sweet name but i dont know if he makes the cut.

Molendyk is doing great. If he doesnt make Nashville he goes back to the Minors though due to age.

Chistyakov i would love to see come over here.

whoa

Minny was 11… so worst case scenario The Athletic believes we have a top 10 prospect pool
I think we have a pretty deep pool that will likely produce a good volume of NHL players....but I think the majority of that will come in the form of bottom pairing D man and bottom 6 forwards. We probably have 3 or 4 guys who will top out as league average 2nd line forwards.

We dont have any big names like a Slafkovsky or Reinbacher recent 1st or 5th overall picks that tend alot of attention
This. I love our prospect depth atm. I don't think it has EVER been better than right now. But we still don't have any guys who are really viewed as super-bluechip elite prospects. Askarov is probably closest, but nobody reads much into goalie voodoo. So to be top-7 with the guys we have is fantastic.

I'm not reading too much into Fink's performance... yet. We had Patrick Harper. It's still fantastic that he's off to a great start. But the NHL scouts would have been all over him earlier than we got him if there weren't "issues" to factor in. I think we can just be happy with his start, be patient, see where things go with him. He's a "bonus" finding atm.

Patrick Harper is smaller than Fink

He also produced at under a PPG in his freshman/D+1 year while Fink is still over a PPG

his freshman BU was a much deeper squad with Clayton Keller, Charlie McAvoy , Fabbro and Jordan Greenway on the team

Aiden Fink is out producing everyone on a shitty Penn State team . Their 2nd highest scorer has 8 pts less than him.

He is driving play and creating his scoring chances, whereas Harper was much more of a passenger

He is clearly our 4th or 5 best prospect (and ahead of Wood IMO)

1. Askarov
2. Molendyk
3. L'Hereux
4. Svechkov
5. Fink
6. Kemmell
7. Wood
8. Ufko
9. Stastny
10. Del Gaizo

I wouldnt put him above kemell tbh but on par with wood seems fair. Wood is struggling but wood is gonna need every year of his NCAA career to develop and fink should take it too. His size is still gonna be a risk to jump into the NHL especially at 150-160 lbs. He's gonna get bodied off pucks but Panarin is only 5'11 170 lbs (point is 5'10 166) so if he can put on some weight and still maintain speed and skating ability then he should be good.

Fink above Wood and Kemell is just a silly hot take.

I love Fink and picked him in my FHL a lot higher than the Preds did... but... let's be real here.

dude fink has almost twice the amount of pts as Wood and is producing on par with all the Team USA guys taken way above him in his draft year

he has basically no support and doing it all on his own

There's more to it than that. Guys who will never sniff the NHL will also put up some numbers.

not in their D+1 year
Go ahead and hitch your wagon to Fink if you really want to. I love him. But at the same time, guys who drop to the 7th round usually have some real strikes that NHL scouts looked at which got them picked that late. Everybody here will rejoice if he pans out. But we all know the odds are very slim.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg went in later rounds too....

To be fair its not like the AJHL is a super high profile league.

Just be content that we may have had a late round steal

Fink has his size and league AJHL going against him at the draft. Itll be something to watch for sure. His size and numbers are very similar to Carolina's 30th overall from last 2023 Nadeau.

Came in at 8th in the Athletic prospect rankings. Wheeler says we're a top tier talent from a top three prospect pool. . His criteria is under 23 and can't be a "full time" NHL players which he states is arbitrary. Still sort of bizarre to me that he considers Tomasino a prospect but not Evangelista, Parsinnen, or Afanasyev but oh well. In any case here is his ranking/tiering of our top 15 prospects.

One guy he has in his honorable mentions that I've never heard anyone discuss before is Sutter Muzzatti.

Muzzatti is huge 6'5" 209 forward putting up good numbers as a sophomore. 8G 15A 23P in 29 Games already surpassing his Freshman production that took him 35 games. 79 PIM. Dont know the breakdown so he might be a bruiser as well
