I'll get some flack for not having Hyman on the roster, but Crosby fills that puck retrieval role for Hyman. Stone would be my 14th guy, I opted to go for Konecny because of his age and footspeed. Plus, a Marchand and Konency line would be annoying AF to play against.

On the backend, Canada has so many good offensive defencemen in Makar, Morrisey, Theodore and Dobson that I opted to go for a more reliable and shutdown guy in Pelech. He brings size and reliability to the blueline. I don't think there's a point in adding someone like Chabot, Reilly Ekblad, Dunn or Montour when you're already loaded with offence. I could see Doughty maybe playing his way onto the team and maybe Owen Power if Hockey Canada opts to go for youth on the blueline.

Most of the best players aren't even going to play, They will use it as a nice 2 week break to rest up for the real NHL games that matter and playoff push, so it's useless to speculate. Probably going to be on par with WC rosters.

Finland won't be able to ice a team if any of their players opt out, especially Dmen.

Also the 4 teams rosters are going to be head and shoulders above WC rosters.

Assuming all of the top U.S. players participate ( :sarcasm: ):

Goaltenders (x3):

* Connor Hellebucyk (starter)
* Thatcher Demko
* Jeremy Swayman

Notes: Jake Oettinger could very slide in here for one of the spots. This is a big position of strength for the U.S. team.

Defense (x8):

Quinn Hughes-Charlie McAvoy
Zach Werenski-Adam Fox
John Carlson-Jaccob Slavin
Noah Hanifin-Brock Faber

Notes: I debated putting Carlson on the team, but I think he's played well under difficult circumstances and is still a top-notch offensive d-man. I think one of Sanderson, Faber, and L. Hughes makes the team and opt for Faber who to me has been the most impressive.

Forwards (x14):

Matthew Tkachuk-Auston Matthews-Patrick Kane
Kyle Connor-J.T. Miller-Brock Boeser
Brady Tkachuk-Jack Eichel-Jack Hughes
Jason Robertson-Dylan Larkin-Alex DeBrincat
Tage Thompson-Clayton Keller

* Notes: This was very tough. There are going to be some very good players left off, especially if it's a smaller roster. I think Kane makes the team regardless. I think he can still play at a high-level next year. I'd play Hughes on the wing. Extras will be Thompson and Keller. Other players I would consider include Pavelski, Trocheck, Guentzel, and Kreider.

To me, this team is sick. Has it all and should be a top contender for this event as well as the 2026 Olympics. Is it as good as what Canada can offer? I say it is.

What are you talking about Finland has enough players for 2 teams

I'm sure they will fair well against the forwards the other 3 teams bring out eh.
So Finland is not able to ice a team if one defender opts out then as you said?

Defense depth is definitely Finland's big weakness but still, Finland has 10 one way NHL contracts for dmen and about 20 two ways including guys with NHL experience like Hatakka, Matinpalo, Heinola, Niemeläinen.

I was replying to your assertion that Finland had enough players for 2 teams.

And the original post I made that you were replying to was this one

We are talking about a 4 team tournament with the best 4 countries available guys like the ones you are mentioning kind of makes my point.

Say there are 24 Dmen in the tournament from the 4 teams, Miro might be top 5ish, Lindell maybe top 10-15 and then the 20-24 guys would all be from Finland.

And you think they could make 2 teams?

In 2006 they very nearly won it all with:

Aki Berg
Lasse Kukkonen
Toni Lydman
Antti-Jussi Niemi
Petteri Nummelin
Teppo Numminen
Sami Salo
Kimmo Timonen

Does team USA have a McDavid, MacKinnon or Makar? To me they don’t. But Canada doesn’t have the goaltending that USA does.

They have a Quinn Hughes. You know the guy on pace for 108 points currently a +34. I might be Canadian but team USA is winning it all with that roster. Maybe we can borrow their 4th stringer Swayman, or Oettinger. Jarry, Skinner🤮💩lol we are gonna get lit up.
