Price on any playoff team, contender?

I'm just thinking about his contract and if he didn't resign he probably would have been traded at the deadline, if that were to happen would whichever team that gets him be a contender? Would a playoff team even choose to pickup Price for a playoff run so late into the season?

Obviously not. He's been on a playoff in Montreal and they don't come close to being a contender even with him on the team.

If he magically appears on a team without anything going the other way and his salary not affecting?

Aside from Montreal, would make most teams a contender. But an asset like that appearing out of nowhere isn't even within the realm of possibilities.

The cap to take on in conjunction with the asset going back would ctipple almost any playoff team right now.

He's not on a playoff team. He makes them a playoff team. Big difference.

The habs without Price are a 20-30th ranked team depending on the season.

It's not that Price is heads and shoulders better than the average great goalie in any given season the way Hasek was. It's that he is consistently great from season to season, so you know you will have a fairly reliable goalie throughout the 6 month regular season.

But we also find that from season to season, different goaltenders emerge who we would not have thought of, who end up just as good as Price for that particular season.

So over an entire career, yes, Price is greater than other goalies. But that doesn't necessarily translate for any single regular season, much less a single playoff run.

Much sooner have average goaltending and world class coaching. First two games we've had neither, 3rd game we had decent goaltending.
Does world class coaching stop pucks? Decent goaltending has never won a Cup to my knowledge.

He is the penchant of consistency when it comes to the regular season but his playoff performance has consistently been mediocre->above average and that's not overlooking the teams in front of him. Versus a guy like Craig Anderson, who's play always goes up a few notches in big games.

Not saying he wouldn't help any contender but at the end of the day, as a contender, you want a goalie who shows up when it matters. Hasek always showed up.

Maybe we should test it out to be sure? Price @ 50% retained for Andersen + 2nd.

If they retained 50 percent but took on andersens salary they are still spending 10 mil on a goalie, now have a weaker goalie...to gain 2nd round draft pick?

Have you even thought your proposal through!?
