The lotto results happen before we get the pick. Unfortunately, we cannot get 1st and 2nd in 2024 with the Pens pick. However, if it rolls into 2025, that's a possibility.
Well we can still get the 2nd overall pick from the pens this year, but only if the pens management has a brain fart and gives it up anyways.

Let it slide baby!

Maybe the Pens really improve and we end up in the 20s , but that's worth the risk of landing a top 5 pick that could really change our franchise. Is a pick in the teens this year likely adding a cornerstone franchise piece?

I won't be mad at 11, but being terrible again next year I wouldn't mind having a real interest in two other teams losing .

With 6 D that are better than all the D from last years draft and the Sharks having 1 top 4 D prospects I think it is essential they grab at least one of them.

So if they win the lottery it would help to grab one of those D with the Pens pick.

If they don’t win the lottery they can grab the best of those D and then I would rather have the unprotected pick next year.

With 2025 being the better draft and seeing little path to “better” for the Pens next season (not to mention the Pens currently sitting in 8th w top-10 protection), I think I would prefer to wait.

The pick in 2025 could turn out similarly to the unprotected 1st we sent to OTT for EK65.

I think if NJ had beaten Carolina last year and the Sharks were going to get their pick at 11-13, I would definitely say 2025 for the Pens pick. A very solid defensive prospect will likely fall to 11 here (and knowing the Sharks luck, Pittsburgh won't bottom out next year as expected), so I'd rather just take the pick now and run.

If we do move it to 2025, that means we can root for the Sharks to start winning while still rooting for another team to tank.

Alternatively, we can root for two top-5 picks, which would hopefully be the end of our tankathon giving us a core of Eklund, Smith, (fingers crossed) Macklin Celebrini, and the two 2025 top-3 picks (and a supporting cast of Musty, Mukh, Bystedt, Edstrom). Then they part ways with Quinn after the 2024-2025, hire their coach of the future, bring in a bunch of the kids, and we can start rooting for wins in 2025-2026. At least that's my outlook on things haha

Add a year and I'm with you. I'm hoping we're in the position Detroit, Buffalo, Anaheim, or Vancouver 3-4 years ago are in... We have potential but we keep being not great. Every year our young guns get older, and then all of a sudden we're a bubble playoff team.

But I don't think that's even possible until 2026-27. I hope we pick bottom 5 until then.

You do you, homie. The idea of watching two teams try to lose as much as possible is certainly a way to spend the season.

Except being single or not is (somewhat) entirely within our control
Being cheated on isn’t though.

I think there's a sense of detachment and maybe even fun rooting for the absurdness of the Sharks being this bad, I don't personally treat it as self-flagellating in any serious way

Also fair lol

I think at worst the Pens 2025 pick will be at where it would transfer to us this season, so I will take the chance at it being much better

The pens are going to can Sullivan and go on a tear because he is absolute shit.
Many here said DeBoer was the problem. Many said just let Karlsson play how he wants and he will lead us to a great season. Neither were true. The Pens have an aging core and no depth. One key injury and they could be bottom 5 in the league. I’m fine getting the unprotected 2025 1st.

The good news (for an unprotected pick) is it sounds like Dubas is very committed to Sully. "If we lost Sully we'd immediately be looking for a Sully."

Malkin continuing to regress, Letang losing a step, and Crosby having no magic winger plus whichever prospect not netting much for them next season in a trade, is what we'd need for the high unprotected pick. But I'd still rather 11-12 this season because of the slug of D prospects or the remaining F prospects that drop because of them. Bird in the hand and all.

I'm hoping for a top 5 2025 pick.

2024 has better Defensemen available in the top 10 but those will come with time. I think loading up on our forward core is more important at this time.

The Penguins just pulled a Sharks (blowing up a 4-0 lead). God they’re bad. I think those wishing for next year’s pick are gonna get their wish.
