I couldn't figure out what the breakout or zone entry was supposed to be today. I'm curious what it was supposed to look like in Bill Peters perfect world.
When he's legitimately fearing for his job for the first time, yeah I am.Really? You're worried about RF doing something reactionary? Sounds like him, yeah.
As much as I want to slash RFs tires for basically accomplishing nothing that counts while he's been here, he was probably being truthful. Now, I think his days are numbered under TD if things don't change, but we may not have trades available because players don't want to come here. That's a ****ty thought, but a very real possibility.
If I were RF I'd take the following measures:
- Fire Bill Peters (not that this is all his fault but the situation is unsalvagable with him still at the helm.)
- Strip the C from the concave chests of Faulk and Staal. Give the C to Williams and the additional A to McGinn.
- Darling on waivers, let him find his game in Charlotte.
Absent a "no trade/no movement clause" the player has no say in a trade. That said, I'm inclined to agree with those who said there really wasn't a good deal to be made. I'm okay with that.
While I don't agree with all of this, there are a couple of moves I'd make. Firing Bill Peters would satisfy some of the blood lust here on the board and might, actually, not be the worst idea....it does feel like he's out of ideas and has "lost the proverbial room". That said, Luke's comments about the team having no identity seem to ring awfully true. Kev's comments about the team lacking talent are also partially true, or at least the right kind of talent. Still when a coach figuratively throws up his hands and publicly admits to being out of ideas, that's never a good sign.
Faulk has been a dumpster fire for the better part of this season. He's played a little better as of late, but not at the level he needs to be. The reality is that he needs to be better, not the least of which so he enhances his trade value. I'm not sure that messing with his "C" does anything to help him or his broader value to the team.
You don't have to put Darling on waivers, you just need to get him to agree to a conditioning stint in Charlotte, which I've got to believe he would do. As mentally fragile as he seems to be, he'd likely do anything to right the ship. But as many have said, he's not the reason we lost the last two.
The Jeff Skinner drama is perhaps the most confusing. He goes from lazy, to manic, to just plain stupid over the course of a game. To me, he's become the elephant in the room. He's not scoring and he's not playing defense. The only Jeff Skinner line that works in his mind is the Skinner/Skinner/Skinner line. Can we honestly say anybody "plays well with Skinner"?
Maybe you sit some vets for a game or three....with the effort of the last two outings, it's hard to see how our results could be any worse. Right now, nobody has any answers, but doing the same thing over and over again just won't work.
I don’t think you can just put Darling on a conditioning stint because we want to and he agrees to it. He’s not coming off an injury of any sort so where’s the justification? I believe he would have to pass through waivers which wouldn’t be an issue unfortunately.

I'm pretty certain, as long as we're not trying to circumvent a salary issue and Darling agrees, he can be sent down on a conditioning stint.
Have there been any real trades aside from Duchene? I get that we want Rf to do things but no one is. Trades are rare, and I keep reading quotes that the sellers are asking for outrageous returns currently. The Duchene effect apparently. I hope he stays the course if that’s the case.
There weren’t very many pick for player trades this summer were there? People keep referencing the picks this summer. If no one is offering a fair trade why would we do it? Do we really think he didn’t try? That’s ridiculous. He did make a bunch of moves overall, and they weren’t all bad.
Making trades for the sake of making trades is nonsensical. I get we’re frustrated but Francis has done a pretty good job assembling the team and building through the draft. We’ll see at the deadline if anyone that could actually help us gets traded for something we would’ve paid.
I would hope at least one kid gets called up.
Ps. Did anyone else read Luke’s article tearing this team to pieces? I don’t think I’ve seen an article blasting the team top to bottom like that maybe ever. He almost sounds drunk he’s so annoyed.
Carolina Hurricanes are broken, and even their coach admits it now

I would have originally said Ryan myself, but as the season has worn on, that hasn't aged as well either. He's had 2 goals and 3 points in the last month and is a -11 (yeah, I know, shitty stat, but still...). I'm not entirely blaming Skinner either. He's lost and only doing what he knows how to do. The defensive lapses are problematic however.Derek Ryan, though granted it’s mainly because Ryan is there exclusively to feed Skinner the puck and not try to do other things.
Regarding Peters, we’ve probably reached the point where a shake-up firing is the next move. Try and get the stereotypical new-coach winning surge and put the team over the playoff bubble, then go from there. It’s not entirely fair to Peters but it’s the obvious move right now.
I do think the co-captain nonsense needs to be shelved. Williams was snubbed for that leadership role and it feels more and more wrong as we watch this play out.
That's the thing that drives me nuts. Our centers have sucked this year, and have been a major, major weakness in this team. Meanwhile, we have Lindholm and Aho, both natural centers, and don't play them at center. We put Lindholm there a few games, and he was pretty good. He sucks at wing, Rask does less harm on wing, so why not run with that full time, or put Rask on the 4th line and bump Kruger to wing (or to the pressbox?) We have Aho, who the team says they want to move to center at some point, but Peters never gives him the chance to establish himself there despite clearly being the best player in this entire lineup. If you're hitting the line blender so often, could you at least try a few different guys at center who aren't useless? The only center we have who absolutely has to play at center is Jordan. The rest aren't doing anything special enough to justify not moving them around.
but it can't be worse than watching the Ryan line spend 40s of every shift in the defensive zone.
I just don’t see a center when I look at Aho. Same as it was with Skinner back when the team was still hinting he could be a center. Nothing about their games or physical stature suggests to me that we would want them in that role.
To be fair, Skinner spends most of those shifts in the neutral zone, not defensive zone.
The team has a new shiny darling winger, he's jelly.Skinner has looked like he's in his own world on the ice for way too much this season
