Stilll on the Brodeur bandwagon or will you wait for the regular season for Schneider to clearly outplay Brodeur.

Bandwagon implies "new" and short term...

Do I still have respect for a franchise cornerstone of 20 years that I watched from a rookie to an old man while winning multiple Jennings, Vezina's and becoming the most winningest goaltender of all time?

Yeah, of course I do. So should you.

I'm excited. I want to see more of the young defencemen who continue to impress. I also want to see the forwards gel some more. The chemistry between Elias, Brunner, and Josefson was nice to see. Lots of options with the forward lines. Schneider is impressive and is going to make a real strong push for the #1 spot

I hope Deboer doesn't keep Marty in the net for the sentimental reasons us fans have.

It's okay for us to have them. It's NOT okay for coaching and management to keep him in the net purely based on that.

I'm only saying that because I honestly can't see Marty truly outplaying Cory for the spot.

So far, Scottyk9, as much as I hate to admit it, The Schneider is making a serious bid to be the starter full-time this year.

Marty is getting competition he never has gotten for a long time(maybe his rookie year)

I agree completely with this. Lets see how Marty plays in the next game. He knows he has to be at his absolute best and Thursday was not that.

I think Marty will get the chance to start, but once it's clear that Schneider is currently the better goalie, he will get out of the way. I'm not worried about ego or anything keeping him in.

The "cory" chants made me smile and laugh. I wonder if that's ever happened to him as a Canuck, in an opposing arena?

I said this at the end of the other thread but this can't be emphasized enough...these are preseason games. Nobody's 'won' the goaltending battle yet based on five periods for Schnieder and two periods for Marty. What happens if Schnieder gives up five goals in his first regular season start? Or Marty pitches a shutout in Pittsburgh?

This is still fluid. Yes, I believe Schnieder to be the better goalie currently and sooner rather than later Pete should act on it assuming the start of the regular season bears it out. But it ain't going to be because Schnieder got out of the blocks better when everyone's getting into game shape and lineups are mish-mash. I think people are declaring this over way prematurely.

Oh dear lord.

In HFBoards fashion, I'm guessing this means he scored a goal today?

Two assists actually...but people have been obsessed with Brunner for months around here, does this really shock you?

Really though he's one of the best twelve forwards. Assuming ego doesn't get the better of him (again) when it comes contract-time there needs to be a spot for him.

I'm not saying give the job to Schneider already, I just hope if he does prove to be the better goalie which I think he will, that Marty isn't put in for like Scotty said "sentimental" reasons. Not saying it will happen, but this is a delicate situation.

I think even if he gets a shutout in pittsburgh, I wouldn't want him to start back 2 back. I am weary about that Islander game already because it's the homer opener and it could be Marty's last.

There are 22 back to backs, start from there in terms of splitting time.

I wonder if TG was the one who asked those questions....

No, you could hear their voices on the video. At least two of them came from Chere.

not looking forward to the trade marty threads

Nah, there won't be any of those. But there will likely be another "Bench Marty" thread.

Patrik Elias said "He's a good player. He's a smart player. You can see that right away." That tells me enough coming from him.

They had good chemistry tonight. Probably our best line along with Yayo.
