Lindholm - Burns

Would be lethal. Slavin is my #2 choice. If looking for a long term piece and not worrying about the best fit right now, Rielly is a guy I'd consider too.

I like Lindholm but it's easier for Rielly to shore up his defensive game (and he has been doing great at that) than for Lindholm to get the same dynamic offensive ability. At this point, the 20 point + gap in offense is bigger than the gap in defense

Since Anaheim is a bubble team to just make the playoffs this season it doesn't matter how good defensively Lindholm is compared to Rielly.

Skjei needs to be an option soon, he had a pretty bad first half but ever since McDonagh got traded he’s playing really well. His rookie season+playoffs was insanely good as well

Lindholm isn't bad offensively -- he's not a raw point producer, but he's still pretty good there. He doesn't have great hands, but he's an intelligent and adept passer. More of a set-up guy than the player that all offense flows through -- someone who'd rack up points if tertiary assists were counted -- but he's very good there. He doesn't have a big bomb from the point, but he's better than anyone else on this team in getting it through traffic. His problem is that he's not flashy or eye-catching in doing that, but he's still effective in the offensive zone.

Since Anaheim is a bubble team to just make the playoffs this season it doesn't matter how good defensively Lindholm is compared to Rielly.

This makes no sense.

Lindholm would be able to put up better numbers if he was on one of the most prolific PP units in the league like Rielly is. Lindholm is stuck on a second unit in Anaheim that is one of the least productive in the league. Every time he is inserted on the first unit his production goes up but for whatever reason Carlyle still insists on Fowler getting the bulk of the PP time.

Some numbers from this season.

You're talking out of your ass. Parayko has been fantastic this year and his play has improved in pretty much every way possible.

Agreed, Reilly plays way more pp time, less pk time. Similar zone starts and similar toi%qoc. Parayko is a stud, just too bad pietra is an even bigger one so he gets no credit. Lindholm is a close second imo, for this poll.

My point is if Anaheim misses the playoffs what's the good in saying how great Lindholm is defensively.

The difference is no one here is comparing McDavid to anyone.
Ah well please I do hope to see you in any thread comparing elite talents on non playoff teams to any players on playoff teams. No sense ever comparing McDavid to the likes of Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Stamkos eh?

I mean why would we bother comparing two guys from the same draft class playing the same position?

Let's be real bud. Lindholm has been on a playoff team almost every year of his career. It's not his fault the Ducks are on the bubble this year. It's the GM and the coach. Toronto isn't where they are because of Rielly alone. This line of logic you've put forth reads like "I don't like that most people think there's a defenseman from this draft class better than the one my team picked, so unless Lindholm can literally carry Carlyle's broken system on his back, then he's not the better player." which is a bad argument. I suppose you'll want to tell us Ryan Getzlaf, Rikard Rakell, Josh Manson, and John Gibson aren't that good either.

I would think Hampus would be around rielly if he was listed

Wouldn't surprise me.

Also of note is the fact that Rielly doesn't lead his team in ice time, either at even strength or overall. How many names on that list can you say that about?

Lindholm doesn't either, but he still plays a bit more than Rielly, and is a strong #2 in TOI for Anaheim(Rielly is 3rd for Toronto). TOI doesn't tell you everything, but his inclusion to the list almost seems a little arbitrary.

Rielly > Offensively. Defensively it's pretty close, but i go with Rielly. He's been our #1 D all season and has done a fantastic job going up against the opposing teams top players on a nightly basis. Lindholm is a solid player but i really feel like he's massively over-rated, largely due to draft position/rookie year hype.
