It's good to note that CBJ doesn't pay ANY player >5,8M$. Even McDavid would have to negotiate 12 months to get a decent contract there.¨

On a bridge? No, jarmo won't...I am fairly certain Jones and Werenski will be paid a more than fair rate come july...

Do they play hardball with RFAs -- absolutely. Is it the best strategy, especially with core players -- probably not.

But to say that "CBJ doesn't pay ANY player" is complete BS and you know it.

Look up Horton, Foligno, Dubinsky, Jones, R Nash, Atkinson and what they offered Panarin -- news flash, it was higher than what he accepted in NY.

Ye, but it still doesn't change the fact that nobody is getting paid over 5,875M$ cap.

Would Kyle Connor from Winnipeg actually be a desired target? Someone mentioned him in the last thread. It would kind of make sense for Winnipeg, maybe. Ehlers, Wheeler, Laine and one of Perfetti/Vesalainen make up your top four wingers and Scheifele/Dubois is a hell of a 1-2 punch. Would be among the best top six out there, once Perfetti turns pro.
Appreciation for the offers that make sense!!! It will cost an under 25 top 6 asset and for sure Connor fits.

Is it a perfect fit for CBJ? Of course not. Is it a better fit than getting 1's in a weak draft? 10000000 times better. Legit hmm offer for CBJ.

And pairing PLD with Laine might make him happy and stay.

Well, unfortunately they couldn't force Panarin to sign although I would have tried gunpoint. :thumbu:

Everybody else is where they should be with some big raises coming due to guys like Jones and Werenski as soon as next offseason (when they can sign extensions). Jackets will make big offers that buy into UFA years so we'll see.

The structure of the de ($3.5M + $6.5M) leads me to believe that Columbus is willing to let this ride out for a little while and get their top line center for cheap this season while the cap space isn’t an issue but revenue is low. Then next season you can sell him as a 1C only a having a $5M cap hit.

CLMBS better be careful. Werenski and Jones both have about 2 years...if Jaarmo doesnt handle the PLD situation well those two might leave also. . .

Dreger on TSN radio was saying a deal is more time sensitive than Laine, his camp expecting to be traded in the coming weeks/months.

Guess we will see if that happens, it's getting kind of crazy how often players are asking for trades now.

If he just bought a house, that would imply that he is ok with Columbus, Torts, and the team, unless he took issue with some of the moves Jarmo made.

Sounds like bitterness over the negotiations. Shouldn't he be insulated from said negotiations? Isn't that why you have an agent, so you don't have to get into the nitty gritty?

I don't think that's it:

"They discussed an eight-year deal, which would have eaten four UFA years for Dubois and would have been the largest contract ever signed by the organization."

Despite trade request, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Blue Jackets will try to make it work.

It really is a mystery to me.

My guess is that Kekäläinen is building a budget contender and PLD isn't feeling it.

Reasons:
a) He's only getting paid 3,35M$ this season (while he was probably hoping something like 7M+)
b) Teammates did not take the "problem" seriously
c) Kekäläinen referred several times to his restricted status, before and after the signing

Scroll up a few posts. Jarmo offered PLD an 8 year deal which would have been the biggest contract in team history. PLD turned it down and took this 2 year deal.
