The only reason I see for moving PK is to land Tavares. I'm not buying the locker room thing. Way too much captured showing how close he is with RyJo and a bunch of other guys.

Zaitsev has negative value.

I honestly feel, and with great respect to Maple Leaf fans on here, that Nylander is their equivalent of Jordan Eberle. Skilled, 60 point winger who kind of plays a peripheral game. Due for a big raise. I don't see him commanding a massive return like PK Subban. The Oilers sold low on Eberle so I am not saying Nylander would only get a Ryan Strome... far from it. But he is not the main piece for a PK Subban trade.

That would be the only reason and for Poile to do that he would need to be feeling it's a lock.

I'll say it again, not a single person here or in the NHL has shown any proof that Subban and the Preds have any issues. The only proof anyone has, and none of them are in or cover Nashville, is " I've been hearing ".

So Subban would be a contract dump? Doesn't that minimize his value?

Even then, Tavares and Subban were best friends growing up, I assume if he wanted to sign with the Preds, he'd want Subban to stay there. Not only because they're friends, but because the Preds are a better team with Subban.

And if the Preds sign Tavares, they would probably have to "get rid" of one of Bonino/Turris/Johansen anyways. It would make no sense to pay your #3 and #4 centers over 10M per season. And if they did trade one of them (Turris, I assume), they'd have enough space to keep everybody else.

And even then we would move Turris and/or Bonino first if Tavares was willing to sign.

That crossed my mind, but I wondered if one of Turris or RyJo might slide to the wing? Neither player has a ntc/nmc, so it's not like there's something stopping Poile from trading one of them, but to trade for Turris, sign him, and then dump him in a 6 mos period seems unlikely.

It's a bit too early to be comparing Nylander to someone much older and more established considering he has only played two full seasons in the league.

I could see Toronto being interested.
He’d fill that need they have and he’d be the hometown hero there.

this is one of the few 1:1 that makes sense for both teams.
But is Subban going to take faceoffs for McDavid when Draisaitl isn't there?
Mcdavid can learn to win face-offs by himself. If this deal actually went down, Nashville would want trade Turris or Bonino, whether in the same deal or a different one.

Deal based around ROR and Subban?
Subban + Turris for ROR + Ristolainen maybe? seems about right value wise but I don't see why Buffalo would do it because even though they get better in the short term, they also get older which doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team.

That's putting a lot of faith in an undersized goalie. Yes he's looked good so far, so might pay off.

To further add to your defense. Just because a team shoots down the rumours, doesn't mean it's not true.

Yeah we're totally shopping PK.

Then what happens if nothing materializes ? Do the preds sell him for cheap, or do they play the season with a player knowing full well the team doesn't want him ?

Where there is smoke, there is fire. Sucks if you are a Predators fan.

I went through the denial phase a few years ago as a Bolts fan with the MSL rumors. If we are hearing about it, it is likely true.

I have a conspiracy theory that something around Karlsson for Subban as a base is one of Dorion's supposed "many" plans if the Senators are unwilling to come up to EK's asking price, or EK is unwilling to settle for the Senators offer, and no team steps up with an amazing package deal for Karlsson.

Poile was apparently the first guy to call Dorion on Karlsson. We're now hearing rumblings about Subban possibly being available. Dorion has claimed that the Senators are on a 5 year plan, Subban is signed at what is a good rate for a budget team for another 4, meaning he fits that 5 year period fairly closely.

If the Senators liquidate Karlsson for a package deal, it needs to be a can't lose type package. Vegas was offering Ottawa apparently two 1sts, a conditional pick, and one of Glass/Suzuki/Brannstrom as a base at the deadline for what might have been Karl+Ryan. While that's a lot of assets, a package like that could easily be nothing 5 years from now. The Senators need a sure thing prospect in a package deal, or proven young talent as a part of it. So if that is not available, a move for an established player that fits the budget and 5 year plan makes the most sense.

The Senators are also possibly moving downtown, although every time Eugene Melnyk opens his mouth I get more and more skeptical that it'll ever happen. For those unfamiliar with Ottawa, the new arena would be a stone's throw away from Gatineau in Quebec. Both Gatineau and Orleans are major french areas in the vicinity of Ottawa, both are infested with dirty traitor Montreal Canadiens fans. Acquiring Subban presents a major opportunity for the Senators to reach out to and try to grow the Gatineau/Orleans francophone fanbase.

Lots of Sens fans despise Subban, but they also disliked Phaneuf and mostly warmed up to him when he came here. Sports are weird that way. While I think Karlsson is better than Subban, it's the closest option that might be out there to a lateral move, Subban fits in with the Senators 5 year plan, and the organization might benefit at the box office and off the ice from acquiring one of the most marketable players in the entire league. Especially so when they are in the middle of possibly the biggest deal in franchise history with the downtown arena being constructed.

This makes sense.

But then you remember that the Senators really desperately need to get out of the Ryan contract. If you move Erik without getting Ryan's contract moved as well, the package coming back better be laden with blue chip prospects and picks in the first two rounds, and Nashville not only couldn't, but wouldn't meet that price.

Moving Subban for Karlsson is a lateral move at best for both teams. As a Habs fan (who is now a neutral party but with some admitted bias) I would love either play on my team, but while Erik is a superior offensive weapon, I like Subban in his own end a LOT more.

I don't think the move is great for either party, if Karlsson says no to a re-up, Nashville gets roasted, and if the rumors about Subban's attitude are true, and he is known throughout the league for it at this point (you don't get moved twice without people talking), it could be a deterring factor for future Free Agents.

I would love Subban back in Montreal, and maybe in some twisted world Poile would take back his old Captain with some draft picks to balance it out (also avoids the nasty cap recapture if he retires) but based on what Gallagher said about PK, it looks like people get worn thin that he puts his "brand" above his team; and I don't think that is ever going to change. I think he is a big player, and he is a franchise level player, but if the boys in the room don't like you, that all is irrelevant.
