He was part of their shutdown line with Karlsson. Barbashev had a nice playoff run next to Eichel and Marchessault, but banking on him repeating that performance would be a mistake.
Come on now. Karlsson was the guy. He was the C in Cassidy’s system. Smith wasn’t garbage like some say but he didn’t make a difference. Barabshev did.

Pretty cheap pickup for the Pens. Smith is alright, nothing special tho.

Have to imagine this is Vegas pushing to re-sign Barbashev.

I agree that Karlsson was the linchpin.

I also agree that Barbashev was a difference maker on their playoff run. But the relevant question is how is he going to perform going forward? Will he play like he did in the playoffs, or something closer to his career average?

Solid player for the Pens. Vegas gets more cap room and another pick to help at more prospects to the team for down the road.

This is a good deal for Pittsburgh. The market has never been more favourable to teams with cap space. Smith will do great with Crosby/Malkin..
