Hextall signed McGinn in the hopes that he would grow his offensive game a bit, but his offensive game just got worse while he was used purely in defensive minutes. Hard to know exactly what he can be. Good sneaky shot with mediocre everything else, doesn’t create offense, isn’t overly physical but isn’t soft. Just kinda meh, except he’s gotta good shot.

Its the same thing with all the deals as we moved out inconsequentual assets and took in guys who were in over their heads in too big roles on bad teams.

Then the hope is that they will provide value when played in better situations.

We can joke about how old the Pens are, but the time to get younger is usually the off-season. Not on the cusp of the playoffs.

I like the deal because of the subtraction of McGinn’s contract. But if Kulikov replaces POJ then I won’t like it as much.
