News Article: PHT: Sabres fans seem to be running out of patience

Kim and Terry have either left in charge or hired the people responsible for the poor drafting. That’s how it is on the Pegulas.

None of us were shouting from the hills like we knew better when the last GMs were hired. Hindsight is 20-20. It seems their football team is turning things around too.

Given no one had the crystal ball the blame is on Murray and Botts not ownership.

And Regier. The criticism is of the men they put in charge of the teams.

Right. But it's almost impossible to guess if a GM is going to work or not.

Ownership spends to the cap, which in a market the size of Buffalo is something to be thankful for. The GM's have blown it. It's simply too hard to tell if a GM is going to be good when you hire them to pin on ownership.

Perhaps stop hiring people with no experience? Perhaps stop with this "flat" org chart that they insist upon?

Then lets deal with the other issues. The rink is shabby and in need of more than just cursory TLC after almost 5 years of neglect. Fix the broken cup holders and the hot water issues in the bathrooms. Clear the birds from the building (there are companies that actually do a great job at this). Get rid of the outdated murals and posters. Strong-arm Delaware-North if they must about the lack of quality concessions. That's all on them. The in-game presentation and amenities are all on them. Stop with the chincy crap. Hell, there was a once state-of-the-art video projection system on the underside of the jumbotron that apparently no one in the front office even knows how to use any more. It's amazing.

It's either hire some retread that another team's already fired or go with an up and coming assistant that says all the right things at interview time.

The rink stuff means nothing if the team is winning.

But they're very far from winning and have bewn for a lot of years. A lot of sports teams gets it that you have to offer the fans more than just a game. With the amount of entertainment available, you can't really on the people to keep being stupid and being okay with a shitty team and a broken down arena and bad overpriced food.

Sooner or later teams will have to adapt or be left in the dust.

Most teams in the league are a result of multiple people's work. You usually don't find a GM in one place for the beginning of the rebuild to the end. There is usually a GM that starts the rebuild, builds a good portion of the team to get them on the right track, and then another person comes in and finishes the job. Because of that you're going to get many retreads in the league.

Buffalo needs a guy to get us on the right path.
