How much difference did the delid make on the OC?
Dropped 20c on my hottest core, allowed me to go from 4.8 to 5ghz... so 200mhz

Even at 5ghz my temps are so low, never going past the mid 60s unless executing AVX instructions, usually hovers around 55-60C in games. Im limited by my silicon more than anything. I didn't get a golden chip that was able to go to 5.1 or 5.2 under reasonable voltage but that's OK, at least I'm in the 5Ghz club which hasn't really been doable since Sandy Bridge. The point is I could have gained another 100-200mhz with a better chip :)

Hey guess what CPU I'm using
Though I never tried pushing it to 5ghz. I doubt it would reach it anyway though based on the volts it takes to get to 4.5

It's too bad they started using that garbage TIM since then. Everything except the dual core pentiums run so hot out of the box.

@Spawn I just had a quick look on NewEgg... I'm going to bed, so here's one prebuilt. I do NOT like that it comes with a 300W power supply - but looking slightly more expensive netted an ASUS with a GTX 1060 3GB - and a 230W power supply.

HP Desktop Computer Pavilion 580-130 Ryzen 5 1400 (3.20 GHz) 8 GB DDR4 1 TB HDD AMD Radeon RX 580 Windows 10 Home 64-Bit - Newegg.ca

I'm off to bed - if I get time tomorrow, I might do some more looking around.

I also saw that HP. From what I can tell, that appears to have the best combination of price/performance in this range. Even with the crappy 300W unit. It's cheaper than the rest to the point where I'd buy that and buy a new PSU for it and it would still come out ahead. It appears to use a standard ATX power supply so swapping it out wouldn't be a problem. Of course the included one *should* work but it's definitely on the lean side.

FWIW nothing in this price range I'd describe as future proof. They all have 8GB RAM and weaker CPUs. But the good news is they are upgradable. That HP can take a new CPU, more RAM (you'd probably have to yank out the 8 though instead of just adding another 8) and it would take a new video card when needed. Though the RX 580 is still relatively high end.

That HP will definitely do what you are looking to do for a few years.
EDIT: Oh it looks like it comes with a free coupon for Far Cry 5 if that floats your boat.

Expanding the budget to the $1300ish range will get you a little better platform but it's probably not worth the difference at that point and I'd think about just building. I'd either get the HP with the knowledge you'll probably be dumping some RAM and maybe a power supply into it in a couple years or save up for a build.

Maybe there are desktops on other sites I'm not aware of. I checked memory express and their prices were pretty high.

I5 7400, 6gb 1060, 8gb of ram
Costco Wholesale

I don't know if you need a Costco membership to purchase it.

That Costco one definitely has a better, or at least bigger power supply. Here's another option:

https://www.amazon.ca/CYBERPOWERPC-...ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1522764553&sr=1-1

They don't list the power supply, so I can't guarantee what's in it, but I have trouble seeing it being a 300w or less. With it being Amazon, if you absolutely had to, you could return it as well. I think Cyberpower has a history of reasonable sized PSU's - I suspect it will be a no name, which makes it hard to know the quality.

Thanks for looking everyone. For something like this should I be looking purely at specs, or is ASUS vs Cyberpower vs HP also a question?

It's really all model to model, some people have brands they won't buy or whatever but I find them all about the same. Most the components are made by the same list of usual vendors.
I tend to think a lot of the Cyberpower systems are gaudy. But it does look like a full size ATX where as the HP and Asus ones are micro atx and have more customized cases. So because of that the Cyberpower is probably a little easier to work with in terms of future upgrades. And as Kestrel mentioned it has a beefier power supply.

Both the Cyberpower and Costco one have Intel i5's. I'd rather have that than the Ryzen 1400 but they are pretty similar.

The HP is a little cheaper.

Dunno how tax/shipping works out between the different options.

Specs wise all 3 of those would be about the same in real world performance.

Not necessarily PC building, but recently wiped Windows from a POS old laptop and installed a Linux distro in its place. Elementary OS. Runs lightning quick and perfect for internet based stuff. Tried the CloudyReady Chrome OS as well with another but didn't like it quite as much.

I'm seeing some really good prices on GPU considering where we were. I'm starting to see 1070s get sub $400 used local. I'm still not a buyer yet but good to see.

I haven't seen a lot of price movement, but I have been seeing a lot more cards regularly in stock now. e.g. EVGA has stock on all their models now, whereas a month ago stock was gone within hours of becoming available. Should lead to downward price pressure if that status quo maintains.

Want a new video card. Don't need it to be anywhere near the top of the line, just a good upgrade. Can anyone point me in the direction of the best bang for the buck sub-$200 card? Is $200 even possible? No clue what's what these days. Thanks.

So you have a 5770 now? In that case you can get a pretty good upgrade for $200 or less.

$150 or so:
RX 550: GIGABYTE Radeon RX 550 DirectX 12 GV-RX550D5-2GD 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Video Card - Newegg.ca

$169 (If you don't mind refurbished): RX 460
Refurbished: MSI Radeon RX 460 DirectX 12 Radeon RX 460 2G OC PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Newegg.ca

$212 - RX 560
MSI Radeon RX 560 DirectX 12 RX 560 AERO ITX 4G OC 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express x16 (Uses x8) HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Newegg.ca

The RX 460 and 560 are about the same speed, though that 460 only has 2GB.

The RX 550 is about double the performance of your 5770.
The RX 460/560 is about 2.5x

If you know what kinds of games you want to play I can better nail down how it will perform. Since these are still relatively low end cards you won't be playing above medium settings on most new titles. But if you just want more FPS in overwatch or something like that these are all good upgrades.

Aye!. I saw the CA and didn't see the San Jose part

Anywho, then you could get a 560 4GB for like $175. Wouldn't bother with the lower end 550.
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 560 DirectX 12 GV-RX560GAMING OC-4GD REV2.0 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 ATX Video Card - Newegg.com

If you can spring for $209 the 1050 Ti is about 3 and a half times faster than the 5770.

Ooh, I'll check these out. Thank you!

Just for kicks is there something in the $250 range that stands above the rest?

A quick look on NewEgg showed 3GB 1060's for $259 plus shipping - if you wanted to squeeze that much out of your wallet, that'd be the best. I like the 580's... but yeah - they're still stupidly priced for the most part. Otherwise, if 250 is your hard cap, go for the 1050ti.

Guys here is my PC

Asus gtx 660ti
i5 3570k
8gig ddr3 ripjaws ram
samsung 250gig ssd
PS corsair tx750
hyper evo 212 cooler

2 questions
1 : if i were to sell outright the entire thing, how much should i sell for?
2 : if i want to upgrade, will just adding a new GFX card do the trick? Maybe oc'ing my i5 would help?

I just want to be able to keep on playing the newer games with decent graphics. i'm a casual gamer, like 5 hours per week top

Selling it - I don't know. As for using what you've got - SniperHF is better at old equipment than I am, but it's got a reasonable Passmark (not the be all and end all, but a good idea of where you sit) - a video card update should do a lot for you. I think that it can still be an entirely competent gamer with the right card.

the i5-3570K is still a darn good CPU. No real reason to upgrade there.

The graphics card would be the choice upgrade, although prices are still silly.

Selling price varies by region, but I think you'd get more value out of a graphics card upgrade.

When I get things upgraded with my system, such as a new GPU and monitor, I think I'll be upgrading my CPU cooler as well. The Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 has been impressing the f*** out of me. I would love water cooling but this thing straight rivals most AIO water cooling kits.

Also, who else here is still using the same power supply from years ago? My NZXT Hale90 750W 80+ Gold is still running strong after 7 years or so. And I'm someone who rarely turns off their machine so it's been running almost 24/7 for years.

should i consider changing my PS aswell?

And maybe getting a better cooler since i will probably need to overclock the i5
