Anyone saying Toronto picked the wrong guy is lying to themselves. Toronto would've been stupid to pick the winger when they so badly needed that elite #1C.

Toronto picked the wrong guy.

It will be nice when this stops. Both kids are having solid rookie seasons, both are going to be all stars for their respective teams for many years to come.

I covet the day when a Laine thread is void of any Mathews comments.

Both guys have had their dry-periods, both have recovered from them. Both have their high light moments, and both are valuable for their teams in their own roles.

Nothing suggest that either of them would somehow bust-out. PL vs AM discussion is already so summer '16 that it is already boring. We simply cannot know how things would work in this or that fantasy team in a fantasy world, but we know it works for them both in this world and reality.

Pate undoubtly get some extra drive to his play when skating on the home rink for fans who love him unconditionally. Who wouldn't?

There's no Ovechkin thread without Crosby comments, there's no Lemieux thread without Gretzky comments. You'll die before that happens.

Little/Stafford/Trouba/Enstrom/ all back now and the Jets worse than ever.

Problem is deeper than just who is in the lineup.

At least we can watch a good rookie score still.

i still believe the jet's will regret choosing laine over mathews

I realize they have a #1 centre, but that 1-2 punch down the middle would have been deadly.
The Leafs had to pick Matthews even if Laine was considered the best prospect (He was not). They did not have that #1 centre. If they pass on that chance, when are they going to get another shot at one?

It's the careless dropping of names like these that puts us all up to the proverbial creek in no time.

Great looking player. With McDavid, Laine, Matthews, Eichel, Marner, etc - this league has it's new stars.

Hopefully we can all get over the Matthews vs. Laine. Both are going to be great players, Laine will most likely always own him in the goals column. But Leafs needed a guy like Matthews way more and he's going to be exactly that guy.

Laine's the real deal and we are more than happy to have him in Winnipeg.

Toronto picked the wrong guy.

Winnipeg fans are starting to remind me of kids acting out because they crave attention.

Toronto fans doesn't care about Laine or Winnipeg in general and it seems to drive you mad.

That is pretty damn impressive considering he is billed as a PP specialist in some corners

Top 15 in even strength scoring after 25 games is not impressive. Just look at those names on the list. Top two in total goals however, that's something. And Laine has gotten there by being a power play specialist.

That was probably a sarcasm but Laine loves Winnipeg and Winnipeg loves Laine so there's no problem. He's the guy who gonna lead Winnipeg to their first Stanley Cup ever, i'm not saying it's gonna happen this season, but sit and wait, this gonna be long and amazing story.

So glad Toronto skipped Laine he fits so much better for Winnipeg !

This Jet roster is a coaching staff away from being a contender. Laine would have 20 goals had he not been moved wings

Laine and the rest of his line were playing dominate hockey 5on5 prior to his idiot coach switching wing on him and Nik Ehlers. Blame needs to be placed on the organization for retaining Maurice as coach.

What both, what Toronto? This was a Laine thread last time I checked.

What a fun and awesome achievement! Altough Laine is almost painful to watch when he's not scoring, when not on, when the opponent is taking all the time and space away. You're just waiting, waiting.. for something to happen. But I think his overall game will come smoother / more efficient during the time. Still a kid still, and what a great kid!

I would never compare him to Lemieux though, unfair for both of them. More like Heatley IMO. Hope his best assets will last longer.

Top 15 in scoring is impressive, for a PP specialist, as I originally wrote.

It's funny how mad two fanbases can be over something so silly as wanting validation over whose SUPERSTAR IN THE MAKING is better.

You're allowed to be happy, guys. Laine will be great. Matthews will be great.

It would be insane if Laine hit 40+ his first year.

Laine is a high event player. That type of guy who might not show up in a good light when looking at fancy stats, but can still create 3-5 prime scoring chances per game.

The league is filled with players who are possession monsters but can't create much high quality offense. It's a valuable trait in itself, but I'll take the players with game breaking ability 10/10 times.

Then there are the guys who dominate the eye test, create high impact plays all the time etc. But then we enter the Crosby/Datsyuk/Ovy territory which is the elite of the elite. Will Laine get there? Possibly. He most certainly needs to improve his acceleration, edge work, defensive positioning, decision making etc. But those are all traits that can be easily trained, especially by a talent of Laine's level who isn't that far removed from his 18th birhtday.

And that shot alone is a weapon that makes him a legit NHL'er. The guy can basically score from anywhere in the o-zone, and his shot selection is insane.
