The panthers sure have a knack for stringing their die hard fans along to the point where they say, wow, I might actually believe them this time, only to demonstrate the reasons why for over a decade they aren't a playoff team.

They haven't got the extra desire and neither does the coach.

If we keep playing this way, we will start winning.

This needs to go on a tshirt, along with "at least we got a point" and "there's always next game". We did not play well last night. We lost. All that matters is goals that get you wins and the wins themselves. No one asks how at the end they just ask if you got 'em. And right now Ottawa and NJ are better at finding ways to score, which is why they are winning more and have the drop on us in points.

We did not score enough last night. Check.
We lost. Check.
We did not play well. Check.

You're smarter than believing in the cliche "if we play like that all the time, then we'll start winning" or "if we pressure them like that all the time, they we'll start scoring". The team can either do it well or they can't. And every year except one anomaly since 2000, they HAVEN'T been able to do that well.

And that's why those teams will be in the playoffs and this one will not. But you have to make yourself feel better for rooting for this crummy franchise somehow. Looking back, it's almost a feat in itself to be mostly terrible for 22 years and have all of us still around caring about it.

You're kidding right. Sometimes when we win, you get a bunch of people including yourself saying we should not have won that game, or we got a lucky bounce etc.

I call it like I see it, but if it's a lucky bounce then great, it's a goal and did it help us win? Yes, then I'm happy. Same goes for the other team. Last night, the Hoffman goal was as lucky a bounce as it gets and he buried it. Good on him. Ottawa was opportunistic and even if we were better than them at times, it was the wrong times basically. But as a whole, we didn't play good enough because we failed to bury chances and that's what it's all about.

That was the worst hockey they played all season. They started off pretty good, and then Derek MacKenzie happened on the PK, doing the exact wrong thing and running around and getting out of position which is death on the PK, and that killed the momentum.
And then they went into this retreat towards your own net, east/west passing, no shooting, hold the puck too long, indecisive, being way too cute, and just over all not remembering the point of the game which is to actually score the puck and not try some overly complex play that clearly does not work since you've tried over and over again a thousand times but yet you increase the attempts as time goes on instead of decreasing them.
Hopefully it was just this one game...

I didn't think they played that bad. The biggest problem in this game was the amount of penalties taken. That is where Ottawa really won the game in the end. Except for a couple of spells (mostly right after their 1&2 goals) Ottawa didn't really create too much, not that the Panthers really did either. Had they stayed out of the box, I think they could very well have won it in the end.
