I thought Sanderson's value comes from his defensive ability? Not sure how "14 5v5 points" factors in much here.
The Karlsson mania got to him

I guess you don’t watch hockey outside of the penguins. He’s a top pairing elite DJesus. What is Ottawa doing.
I guess 14 5v5 points, and 77 games was enough for ottawa to commit that much money long term.
I don’t know if I can think of any notable defensemen that peaked in their very first season. (Other than Tyler Myers)Could pay off well, had a fantastic first season.
Could turn out poor as many defenceman have had excellent first years and regressed.
Either way it is a very bold move.
Locking up all their top players. Sanderson is Ottawas second best player and will probably be their best player in a year or two.

Stutzle didn't "burst way past his ceiling". You just can't evaluate hockey players.Stutzle had way more games played for his extension.
I did think It was a risky deal for Stutzle, but he bursted way past his ceiling and it paid off.
Would want more production and more games played before giving out that much money.
He’s that good. I don’t think you understand. There is a reason he just got an 8x8.Yah, 77 games is enough to proclaim that lol.
What's dahlin gunna get
Dumb comments from a guy who's probably seem him play twice. I'll give you a hint..... he's already better than Morgan Rielly.Holy mother of god what an overpay. It's sad that this was the only way he was going to stay in Ottawa long term.
You don’t watch him play if you worry about his offensive upside. He’s not a ppg player. He can run a top PP unit for a team that doesn’t have a 1 dimensional pp specialist. It’s still a gamble. It trends on looking good but paying a guy 64 mil on one NHL season is always a gamble.
I struggle with his offensive upside but he’s still a stud of a defenseman.
2 seasons apparently.I could see if he had another good year and was getting this contract next year, but not after 1 year in the league, just makes no sense.
Oh lord this is a take.Thats a lot of money for 9 5V5PP (15 all-strength primary points), 1 less than the great Hamonic (1 less (one more than Hamonic), playing more minutes, with better players and with more offensive zone starts.
Overall not so bad though, Id say it's a 1.5-2.5m overpay depending on how much he can develop his offensive game. I think Guhle is better at literally everything than Sanderson, but Id be pretty mad if he signed at this amount.
also sanderson's iq is one of his best attributes.Hmmm Sanderson is quite a bit younger
Also, a bizzare take to say he's already at his ceiling after 1 year lol
Just like Stutzle's contract. He's a good young player but this reeks of desperation
4 years into this contract it is going to be an insane steal
Sens players are believers in their group.. cool to see some players still do this
Please, no one thought he would be a 100 point player.Stutzle didn't "burst way past his ceiling". You just can't evaluate hockey players.
They burned a year of his ELC near the end of the season two seasons ago when he signed following his college season. Last season was year 2 of his contract, had just never played a game yet.I thought they couldnt extend him yet. Wasnt this past season in the league his 1st on the ELC?
