The building looked sold out in the first period and half-empty in the second and third. There must be something to that.

It definitely didn't look sold out when they showed half-empty seating at the opening faceoff... which would normally not mean much, but this was at a 7:30 Saturday night start following a banner-raising ceremony. Those tickets may very well have been distributed in some fashion, but there's no way that building was close to full.

Exactly - I was watching with my wife, who goes to home games but rarely watches the games on tv with me and she says "Where is everybody? It is a Saturday night home opener."
She followed it with, "How the hell does a team in South Florida get a team anyhow?"

I was pleased with Jordan and Semin last night. Semin's passing ability really stood out to me. Eric and Ward **** the bed. Corvo was Corvo. Faulk-Pitkanen is going to be a great pairing for us. Put Gleason with McBain and Harrison with Sanguinetti and we'll be ok.

I liked Pitkänen-Faulk and Bowman. Nothing more positive to say about this game...

One thing we should be very glad about is that we aren't going at it again in less than 8 hours today. Can't image how bad the Pitt-NYR game is going to look today.

It looks half empty because the powers that be, Yormark, felt like it would be a great idea to make the center ice sections behind the players benches into an elite club that costs 26k a seat per season. Not only have they sold less that 50% of those seats, but the majority of the seat owners spend the entire game in the lounge at the top of the section, eating and drinking. It makes the place look empty, but that was the only section. Everything else was packed

I was wondering if that might be it - I saw the "Red Zone" promotion in between periods and that lounge area looked pretty packed.

Thanks for the info.

Raise your hand if you're already sick of Chantel chat.

*raises hand*

There are more important things in the world to discuss and focus on than a young professional trying to do their best at a job. It's better to stay positive and not expend too much energy on disliking somebody or something.*

Fair enough. PNC has that same issue with the Champions Club. You just can't see it on TV.

impressed by semin's skill including creativity and passing
impressed by bowman
sangs gave them a goal as did corvo maybe 2

someone posted chantel as a professional, may i ask professional what?
and was wondering if she is an ex-member of the storm squad?

writing this game off as just 1 game and not going to get bent on any of the guys except corvo who i have always kind of liked but another exhibition like last nite and zamboni driver would be as close as i would want to see him to the ice!

expect the guys to come out with their hair on fire tuesday especially staal #1

back to corvo a sec he used to have a cannon of a shot did he lose it? that would be the only plus for him and if thats gone he should be too

Last thing I'm going to say about Chantel before I don't talk about it again.

If JR wanted to hire a cute, young, up-and-coming type 3rd member of the broadcast team, why not give that girl Maggie from the in-game entertainment last year a shot? She seemed quite professional to me, she outshined Ron the Ref easily and if she wanted to switch to the interviewer role I bet she'd have done it quite well.

With JR's history of "loyalty" I'm surprised he didn't offer HER the job. Unless she turned it down...

I liked the way Jordan looked last night. I never really realized how huge he was but he was using his body well and opening up the ice for the other guys.

100% agreed. Were a couple situations last night where he was physically manhandling people. That one penalty he drew on Huberdeau was hilarious. He also had one shift in the 3rd period that was dominant.

Honestly, outside of the first period, last nights game wasn't that bad. Muller must have absolutely reamed them during the intermission.

One can hope. He seems like the kind of coach that is all happy during the interviews or behind the bench, but could absolutely snap in the locker room.

He'd given up two similar goals prior. It didn't look like he would have been concussed or anything from the hit.

I didn't say or imply anything ridiculous like that. But it has to mess with a guys head I'd think. Especially knowing that nobody on the team would stick up for him or even gave Parros a dirty look. It's bad enough they leave him out to dry so often on defense, but to then not even try to stick up for him when he get's ran. Doesn't send a good message to Cam from the team.

Hi, sorta a new Canes fan (for Semin :p)... I didn't get to catch the game (I live in Toronto -_-), how were Semin, Staal and Faulk?

Semin didn't look out of place. Had some good chances and was good with the puck most of the time. IIRC, he rang one off the pipe. Assuming you mean Jordan Staal, he had his moments. Very physical at the end of the game, and was beginning to assert himself on the way to the net. If you mean Eric, he was not impressive at all. Terrible giveaway on the 2nd goal on the PK. I'd say Faulk was one of the few good players of the game. Logged a ton of minutes, didn't slow down, got an assist, and didn't make any mistakes.

Yes sorry I meant JS :p I was one of the few that felt he was overrated and I still don't think he deserves the $$ he's getting... but with inflation, I guess it makes sense. Not to take anything away from him though, he's still a fantastic two-way C, just not as crazy good as people male him out to be.

And glad to hear that Semin doesn't look out of place. One thing you guys should know about him though is that... no he's not lazy. When he does look like he gives up on plays or that he's not hussling is because his endurance sucks and always looks gas'd after those shifts. He has a bad habit of trying to 1-man it in the offensive zone sometimes though when he feels like the players he's playing with can't get the job done. That'll be frustrating I promise. He, Alzner and Carlson were the only reasons I continued to follow the Caps after Fedorov left.

Faulk looks legit to me. I'm glad the Canes have him to look forward to.

Anyways, here's to hoping for a return to the playoffs for the Canes! :)
