Like Lucic so far.

2016-17: 23 goals and 50 points. Big time toughness. 6 points in 13 playoff games.

This year, 11 points in 18 games. Hasn't played great, but if you have a guy like this who can lead, put up points, and be tough - what's to complain about. Call me in 4 years

Oilers might never win a cup, and it will be due to the poor depth moves by Chia.

Russell 2 years to long
Lucic 2 years to long
Eberle for nothing Traded Eberle 1 year to early
1st + 2nd for nothing Should have held onto those picks unless an NHL ready defenceman was available
Not moving on from RNH before his value tanked to cap dump territory RNH is playing great
Draisatl contract 1 million to much per season
etc etc

As I told the OP earlier in this thread, it's not a "bottom-5 contract in the league." It's not even a bottom-5 contract for UFAs signed in the summer of 2016. Here are 5 worse contracts:

NameTeamAgeCap HitTermGPGAPts
BackesBOS33$6M579172239
BrouwerCGY32$4.5M485131528
ErikssonVAN32$6M670111425
LaddNYI31$5.5M795261238
LucicEDM29$6M7100263561
OkposoBUF29$6M781213051

and he's the youngest of the bunch too

Lucic's contract is going to make things difficult in the future. His play is ok but it's still an unnecessary contract considering what he brings to the table. Money could be spent much better else where IMO...

Way too long. Knew this and Eriksson’s Contracts were going to end up being awful last. Lucic will probably drop off significantly in year 3 or 4.

Lucic is twice the player Erikkson is at this point in their careers.
He's also better than Backes (in response to the Bruins fan post).

Great move by Sweeney to trade him and not sign him long term. Got an absolute haul from that trade, which ended up being Zboril, Colin Miller and Trent Frederic.

Not-so-great move signing Backes to a bad contract, but definitely not as bad as Lucic.

Lucic is a great player. Not sure why people like to pretend he’s fallen off a cliff. 29 years old still the best mix of skill, toughness and physicality.

As a fan of a different team not named the Oilers. I agree..

Lucic is great, keep him in Edmonton forever.

Pretty please !

He's been very solid this year.. still do not like him on the first PP unit, but he's been good overall.

He has been better this year for sure. His 5v5 play has been back to par with his typical career pace, even playing with Nuge. I think having Pulju on the line with him and McDavid lets him finally be effective on a McDavid line now. Those 2 guys both have the wheels to carry more of the play and he can try to do the physical stuff along the boards. Now if only our PP could stop being so awful. He rarely gets a chance to even try to touch a puck around the net on the PP this year because of all the perimeter play and weak shot attempts from the rest of his unit.

The last few years of his contract have a limited no trade clause, so more teams to trade to. We could trade him to a scrub team like the flames who need to reach the cap floor.

I've been hyper-critical of the Oilers all of my life, but I love the Lucic signing. His presence has galvanized the team because he leads by example: was great last season, an absolute monster in the playoffs last year, and has been awesome this year both offensively and physically.

People are justified in criticizing the contract but they lose credibility when they start to talk about him like he's a bad player. On the ice, he does more good than bad.

7-15-22 +5 in 31 games and 17pts in the last 20. Is still a dominant physical force on pace for 250 hits.

What exactly do people think 20-40-60, 200+ hits and top 5 fighter in the league gets in free agency?

Really what its going on is a lot of you have some serious butt hurt over Lucic, the Bruins and the Oilers.

yeah it's not a bad investment at all. but I don't think there is any "butthurt" going on anywhere.

I think it probably has to do with a few things.
- he's a doosher so people are more prone to ripping on him.

- he has started out slowly both years. and this year especially not many are paying attention to the oilers so they don't realize he's picked it up.
