Great get for wolves.
Even if there is reason to wonder what went wrong...the kid handpicked Barrie as one of very few teams he would report to.

From Sept. 7 2016:

"The Mississauga Steelheads transferred Kirill Nizhnikov to the Barrie Colts for Guelph’s 2nd round pick in 2017, Flint’s 4th round selection in 2017, Windsor’s 3rd round pick in 2019, Barrie’s 3rd round selections in 2019 & 2020, Barrie’s 2nd round pick in 2023, conditional 3rd round selections in 2021 & 2022, a conditional 4th round pick in 2021 and a conditional 5th round selection in 2021. In addition to the acquired draft picks, Mississauga is also set to receive a compensatory 1st round selection in the2017 OHL Priority Selection."

That's 11 picks by my count. One has to wonder how many of the conditionals come to fruition though.

Nope. Caamano and Moore had quit on Flint. The team looks better since the trade. I'm pretty confident that this trade will be seen as a win for both teams as time goes on.

I think it was a good trade for Hamilton, great for Flint.

From Dec 16th until Noon on Dec 27th for non-WJ players and from Dec 10th to Jan 6th for WJ players - if a player gets cut at WJ camp they go back into the non-WJ players group or if their team is knocked out at the tourney.

Edit - this may be out by a day here or there but it is basically what it was last year.

To Ottawa:
– 8th Round Pick (2019)
– Conditional 3rd Round Pick (2021)
To Owen Sound:
– Olivier Lafreniere

What card is Riley? DeGray has just made a mess of managing his cards with this revolving door of tenders. This is disheartening for their fans since they were supposedly the team to beat this year.
I am having a hard time figuring which side of the fence OS is sitting with this trade?

They're definitely not on the selling or stand pat side - there's a huge amount of tension and anger locally. This team with a good goaltender is contending for the title this season.

Unfortunately, this is another bargain bin move by DeGray. Ottawa's one of the worst defensive teams in the league and Lafreniere's numbers don't exactly inspire confidence.

I'm guessing this is a move to rectify the backup situation, to try and bring someone in with at least SOME experience, because Daniels is not an OHL level goalie.

DeGray has brought in Lafreniere to bring some steadier tending to the Attack. Guzda has been good for a rookie tender this year but still has lots to learn yet as a 16yo in the league.

Daniels for has average has he's been hasn't came in a ran away with the starters role by any stretch this season (although some of that isn't his fault coming back from injury with the Dutchmen in Kitchener).

Hopefully Lafreniere can come in and play more then what Mack and Riley have combined thus far. Not to knock on either kid in the pipes but we can all agree that putting a 16yo kid in net to get his confidence shelled is poor management lineup wise.

However we slice it DD has had pressure to contend this season and without a solid tender in the pipes its hard to produce that when the team tries so hard to get W's and then confidence shatters in the dying minutes of the final frame when your last line of defense can make the critical saves when needed.

This move certainly isn't because Daniels is a bad tender but like a handful of players over the years on different clubs around the league has been dealt a impossible task with limited experience in the league and has shown that his confidence is sinking in the ever deep pool of the league's western conference.

Personally he would have been better to have kept Propp and let him slip through their fingers. If Propp wasn't going to be their go to, at least he would have steadied the ship till a legit tender was acquired. Maybe DD was high on Lyles but their Achilles heel was in net. Question, who do you think would have won them more games- Lyles or Propp?

I think the new G Will be a whole lot like Bowman.
Not great numbers , but things derailed quickly when Bowman left.

At least LA FRENIERRE is 19, so hopefully more composed, and has worked with Red Dog so he knows him .

Olivier was in a tough spot, spent critical development time playing behind Leo who has absolutely no NHL upside but Ottawa kept playing him. The move to trade Leo was to open the door for Oli but for whatever reason Ottawa grabs out-of-league OA (you wonder why OHL can’t develop goalies) and that set the wheels of discontent in motion. Then add the desperation act of merry-go-round goalies in a panic for wins and the wheels have come off in Ottawa. Olivier asked for a trade a long time ago. Give him some time to adjust and he will be a steady…most likely not outstanding …goalie.

Mostly accurate. For the first 2/3 of last season, Lafreniere was the starter. Leo was playing more of a backup role or at least they would have been considered a platoon. It wasn’t until about 2 weeks before the playoffs after a couple bad starts for Lafreniere that LEo was given the full time starters job.

The expectation in Ottawa was that Lafreniere would be the starter this year but as you said they acquired the OA in Tremblay and nothing went right. I guess that is the problem when you hire a QMJHL coach. Funny part is Tremblay was never a bonafide starter until the 2nd half of last year. NEver really had decent numbers either.

Barrie trades forward Curtis Douglas, a 2nd round pick in 2021(SBY), a 2nd round pick in 2022 and a 3rd round pick in 2024 to the Windsor Spitfires for overage forward Aaron Luchuk.

Douglas is a 6'8 center? Christ, that's obscene!! At 201 that kid must be a string bean.

Seems like a lot. But, the picks are 4-7 drafts away. Douglas improved a lot in one season. Pretty good trade for both, imo. I doubt there will be a drop off in points for Luchuk in Barrie

Someone mentioned they thought that today was the beginning of the Christmas trade freeze. Can anyone confirm this?

For Duke Guy - can't confirm this ( OHL is all smoke and mirrors) but as I mentioned in this post it will be very similar to what it was last year so best I can do for you.
