Rumored Day & Vilardi to the Fronts from Spits no word confirming as of late on either teams making movement yet.

Looks like the its a Limestone City load up continues in hopes of banners in the east

The Fronts don't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the 2018 draft. They don't have a 2nd in 2019 or 2021. They have two 2nds in 2020. Can't see them being able to come up with the necessary 2nd round picks to pull off a major trade unless they are looking to give up Players like Cody Morgan or prospects like Evan Brand, Luke Drewitt, Ryan Dugas etc.

I can't see the Greyhounds being interested in paying a substantial price for Day when they have such a solid top 4, but if Windsor is backed into a corner then the price may be right.

Windsor may find themselves in the same boat the Rangers were in last year being handcuffed by Bracco only accepting a trade to the Spits.

Well here's what they end up getting from Kingston for Day and Vilardi:

These future picks are getting a little ridiculous, no? How long before the OHL puts a limit on how far in the future a team can trade a pick?

Why does it matter? Many of these picks are traded multiple times before they're actually made. They're trade currency.

It doesn't matter.

It only matters to GM's around the league who refuse to pay big prices and get outbid in trade talks like Steve Spott during his time here in Kitchener. He would get outbid on a player and then whine and complain in the media about the big prices in the distant picks involved. Then, the local Kitchener media guys, towing the company line, picked up the argument and ran with it. Then people on message boards have picked up the debate.

it's the same joke that gets tossed out every time a deal like this happens and the punchline still isn't funny.

Windsor just traded for a package that includes a kindergartener, a 1st grader, a 3rd grader, a 4th grader and a 5th grader.

When a guy hands a $5 bill to the cashier at McDonalds do you scream "STOP, THAT'S A CURRENT 2 YEAR OLD'S FUTURE BILL!"

No, you don't because currency constantly changes hands and it's not a big deal at all. In the OHL, picks are currency. The fact that people can't seem to understand this really is mind blowing :help:

I think it's reasonable to expect the league to put a limit on future draft picks. It would promote more parity instead of these super teams that we are seeing more and more of.

The super teams will always be there when top end players have the ability to pick and choose where they will or won't play. If anything, it could be argued that smaller market teams having the ability to load up on these draft picks when selling off their valuable assets already promotes some semblance of parity.

There are basically 2 very different types of General Managers in the league. Firstly, there are those who have a direct financial interest in the team they manage. Their employment contracts are at their whim and pleasure, and they're not responsible to an owner or a management group. This type of GM aren't constrained by the anchor of having to answer for their management decisions. This group can and do make those far distant draft pick deals, because they can!

On the other hand the second group of GM's are basically employees, and have to answer to an owner or Senior CEO for their actions. That group tend toward being more conservative in the deals they make, and you're far less likley to see them trading those distant picks as part & parcel of their deals. Granted, it's from this group that some "desperation deals" are originated.....sometimes in an effort at preserving their employment status.

So, is it better for the league to have this apparent disparity among the General Managers, or is it something they're willing to live with, as-is ? Who has any perceived advantage ??

The best teams in the league right now aren't the ones that use their financial might to attract players. That's still an issue that needs to be addressed and policed behind the scenes, but not via draft pick trading.

If I'm in charge of the league, I want teams to follow the Greyhounds model of drafting and developing players. I don't want teams to tank for several years and pile all of their assets into one season. That's fun watching from afar, but not for fans of a team like Sudbury when they make a few failed attempts at a run and end up in the tank for several seasons because of it.

It is getting a little ridiculous. I think Branch is going to have to say something but as long as there are desperate owners like Springer that sell all their draft picks there will be teams willing to make the deals.

Kingston has been an also-ran so long that they think a couple of players will take them to the promised land over the west.

Maybe the OHL needs to reconsider some of this silliness because it is one selling point that the NCAA uses to recruit players. The OHL seems to be losing this war, and they will in the end. These are kids, not marbles.

Wow that is a huge price for Day and Vilardi. Vilardi hasn't played a game this year has he? Day will be gone next year, doubtful OA, correct?
