Guess he feels he can find a spot somewhere else. Could have had worst situation that going home to end career in Hartford his place of birth.

I dunno, if no one wants him on waivers right now he’s probably closer to retirement

I’d imagine he’ll try to stay in game shape and see if a team needs him within the next while, probably a contender. But I imagine he’s happy to retire if not.

What? Also: why and how?

He was basically making league min and was just on waivers. Nobody wanted him for free, and rightfully so.

I guess he's just hoping for injuries to really strike a playoff-caliber team in the next couple of weeks and then sign there?

Still gotta pay money to the rangers to pick him up on waivers, not picking him up but signing him is free? I dunno... i'm reaching here

Really liked Bonino in his short stint with the Canucks. Unfortunately that genius Jim Benning traded him for a worse player to play a similar role.

Carved out a pretty solid career as a valuable middle-6er despite being a relatively piss poor skater. Just a good mix of hard work, IQ and some skill.

Damn, sucks if this is it for the fast man Bones. He is/was a good soldier for all teams he's played for. One of those great stories.

weird that he would rather retire than play in his hometown for NHL money. Unless he signed a two way contract and only would be making AHL money.

Hope he enjoys his retirement... and maybe moves into a new job in the game. He was definitely a great pickup for the Preds. Always had a knack for the game, even if his physical skill level wasn't quite there. He didn't have much skating ability to begin with, just a lot of IQ. So it's not surprising he's done at 35. But he gave us 3 really solid years in Nashville and was very well-liked and appreciated.
