How has his value not changed when Tor is on a deadline? So what your saying is that even though they need to trade or sign him (or not play him but how is that good for a cup contender) by Dec 1st it makes no difference on the return they would get for him? It’s obvious that if they want to trade him Tor has no leverage. Nyl is a problem for Tor rn and no team is going to overpay to fix it. We are agreed that he most likely won’t get traded though.

they have all the leverage there is. only way they're making a trade now is if they get what they want.

Some of these are wishful thinking. Nylander at 7.5+ really isn't as much of an "asset" as you may think.

Look to the return the Bruins got on Hamilton. One 1st + two 2nds. Pesce + Ferland is completely unreasonable.

Yup. He may not get traded if Dubas is expecting that sort of a return, in which case he sits. His value is undeniably affected by this situation and what are reportedly outlandish contract demands.

It kinda goes both ways though. Most leaf fans dont feel as if Pesce is really a top 4 Defenseman and isnt as good as people make him out to be. We dont really consider Pesce an "asset either". I feel like people are shoving Pesce down our throats mainly due to the contract being so reasonable.

I'll gladly take Ferland out if Slavin is in the deal instead of Pesce.

Slavin + Martinook and then we got a deal
Haha you think Slavin would be involved? And with a plus? That's brutal. .

The fact that McKenzie today quickly mentioned Slavin as a target (which he also said Hurricanes would not want to do)....just proves what leaf fans have been saying for weeks now....that Pesce is not a good enough target for Nylander.

Pesce has been mainly being pushed on by other fan bases and the media...which I understand makes sense given Pesce contract..but he's not anywhere close to Nylander's worth.

Any deal involving Pesce would either have to include another major Asset back...or multiple other pieces to go along with him. Its that simple

His ability as a player hasn't changed...at all ! That is what another team is buying. They can't low-ball Dubas under the pretense of 'aha, yer runnin' oughta time dude!".The Leafs will survive without Willy ,just fine,he isn't the difference between a cup and no cup. Kappanen is filling in nicely as well. Willy has been a fool here, period. Can you imagine the Leafs winning the cup and he is watching? That would be demoralizing.

I ultimately believe that one way or another, they will come to a contract agreement of some sort instead of trade, mainly because like you said...the asking price will be high (as it should be) and whether or not teams meet that demand is questionable

By your logic if Larkin was signed at 3m, Nylander still wouldnt be worth more than him. Youre looking at it the wrong way. Its not if he deserves more than Larkin, because he will get more than Larkin. (Unless if its a bridge).
As irony would have it - guys like Larkin (60 to 70) point potential are getting $6 some mill per season which is exactly what he’s getting.

Willie, his daddy, and his agent are way over valuing what he’s worth.
