Now is probably the time to finally go all-in

But we can also do better. And what I mean about that is (if possible) finding a player with similar advanced numbers to Hickey without the shortcomings in his game.

In a perfect world, we acquire a defenseman who pushes de Haan down to the third pairing (OEL).

What will happen in all likelihood is nothing, which may work out too because I think Toews could surprise.

If the Islanders are still flirting with first place (or have a playoff spot all but secured) by the deadline, I'd be very surprised if Snow does nothing. Odds are that it'll be a minor move but I do think he will be in on all of the talks for the big fish. I expect the Islanders to be an aggressive buyer at the TDL.

I should have clarified that I don't see them acquiring a defenseman unless there is a long term injury to the top four.

I do see them adding a depth forward like Jordan Nolan or Brad Richardson.

Gotcha. A lot will depend on their situation at the deadline. Injuries or newly exposed weaknesses may dictate what Snow will target.

We've been lucky so far, but you have to believe one of the D will get banged up and miss time at some point(I'm looking at you, Mr Boychuck).

Toews outplayed all the bottom pair defensemen in the preseason . . . if it wasn't for his waiver situation versus the other defenders he'd be here now. Replacing Hickey with Toews also makes the 3rd pairing RHD more effective.
I think depth is very important in this league. Having two guys in the AHL that could come up and potentially jump right in is huge. If those guys aren’t needed during the regular season, you can always call them up when the rosters expand for the playoff run.

You have 200 messages on here and you act like you "know" me and what I would have suggested in various situations. If you read my entire post, I said in past years, when we were fighting to just make the playoffs, there would be support for that argument. And yes, if this team suddenly fell apart, then you adjust the strategy. But if they are still in this position in that final month before the deadline, then you look to buy and upgrade the team. Nobody is suggesting trading Barzal. That is the benefit to the situation we are in, we have Beauvillier, Pulock, Bellows, two first round picks, two second round picks, etc. We do not need all of these pieces, you build assets to use some to improve the current team when it is on the fringe of cup contention. If we are in the top 3 of the conference/top 5 in the league near the deadline, that is a cup contender.
Also, I think we must have different definitions of a "flashy" deadline deal. If those of you on the other side of the argument think I mean adding Alex Ovechkin or the like, then you would be right that those rarely work. To me, adding a third line center faceoff specialist and a top 3 dman are flashy deadline deals. Acquiring either one or both of these would in no way mess with chemistry on the top two lines, it would solidify the rest of the lineup. So, again, nobody is asking for this team to trade 10 assets to get Crosby, but this team should be beyond the years of Shane Prince-type deadline moves.
oh I do know you. You've posted this in various forms again and again. So don't bother. You don't care about building a winner for the long haul. every year it's trade this to win now, "I'm tired of waiting. " It gets old fast.

You most definitely would have traded Barzal after his 2 Games last year. To go all in. Don't bother denying it because you've done it before.

There is a cadre of Islander fans who are not cognizant that there are 29 losers every year and that winning is a marathon not a sprint. The Rangers havent won since 1994 and then only once in 77 years. We had a horrid ownership with no scouts for most of Snow's tenure here and the last GM here, a man with a Stanley cup pedigree left screaming after 6 weeks. Due to the craziness of the owner.

with No Arena, things are still no picnic but thats hardly snow's fault. so how about you let the man do his job. We are just fine as we are, there is no need to fix things that aren't broken by trying to force things. I have every confidence that the new owners and Snow have the franchise best interests at heart and unlike you have the PATIENCE to see it through.

Barzal and Eberle are all the evidence I need that the man has a plan and is slowly moving forward, sure it may not be as fast as you'd like but then again you're not paid to make these decisions he is. I'm not saying he hasn't made mistakes but given with what he had to work with that's understandable. Edmonton has had how many first overalls and how many other top 5 Picks and where are they? With a new arena and an insanely rich owner too.

We're fine just remember 29 teams lose every year. Be thankful you're not a ranger fan (1 in 77) Or a capital fan (still waiting for their first in 44 years) PERSPECTIVE is your friend..... Gain some. You'll be a lot happier. as my old friend DarthMilbury used to tell me. Enjoy the ride, what good is the finish line if you dont.

I don't even know why I wasted my time reading this rambling overlong post when you didn't address anything I wrote. So you would not be in support of adding a top 3 defenseman for 2 or 3 assets, or a third line center faceoff specialist for maybe a second round pick? So it is crucial, just absolutely critical that we keep two first round picks, two second round picks, Beauvillier, Bellows, Pulock, etc? The franchise will end if we lose a couple of these assets?
You actually just proved my point even more without even knowing it. The Rags have one cup in 77, years which exactly demonstrates my point that you never know when you will get another chance. What if the Isles could win the cup this year? And what if Tavares was going to leave either way? You would say nope I dont want that cup this year because I need, I NEED to have Beauvillier, an extra first round pick and two second round picks?
Go back to watching re-runs of Isles games from 2010 and sitting on your couch with your Hockey News draft guide and circling the players you want in the second and third round of the draft this year.

have to agree here... JB is almost like the linchpin of this offense, without him the structure is weakened to the point of collapse.
Interesting isn't it?

It's almost as if nobody here remembers the countless times people here have wanted to trade this " worthless bum"

But not one of them will admit it

That's your problem. NO PATIENCE. You want everything NOW. Unfortunately life doesn't work like that.
Every year it's the same with you.

No I've been here since day one. I'm no troll. There are people who know me.

I love this team Double Chili, Crew99, Darth Milbury Trottier and I opened this board. We are just old enough to know that it's not always wise to be in a rush. We learned the hard way. We lived it. His name was Mike Milbury

Is it a good thing or a bad thing when two of our most annoying posters start getting into it?

I have no idea why I would be one of the most annoying posters. You maybe disagree with me and there are people who I disagree with that dont "annoy me." But I have been here for over a decade. I didnt suddenly just show up here spouting nonsense.

No you didn't just show up, but you do spout nonsense.

But hey, for what it's worth, I'd rather read your posts than his!

Lol.

Thanks for the philosophy lesson sweet heart.

I'm 36 years old. Pretty sure I understand the pain points also. The nhl is different than 1990, so if you have a shot to go for it, especially when you will have 1 player next year taking up 1/6 of the payroll, you do what you can to win now

Again, you may disagree with some of my opinions over 10 years, but on the current subject, please point out one aspect of it that is me spouting nonsense? Suggesting we upgrade a team that is elite at the deadline to become a cup contender by giving up a few assets for a defenseman and third line center. Thats nonsense?

No, but this is actually one of your finest moments. Most of the time you just post complaints. You're the type who tends to only show up when things are going bad.

But listen, you don't need my approval. Save your energy for Mr. "Here Since Day 1".

We have probably the best team many of us have seen in quite some time and we're arguing like little babies. Who gives a shit if someone is OG or whatever. We're all members here.

Let's all get together and have a beer while we watch this team f*** shit up. You can throw down in the parking lot afterwards.
