Yes, this happens literally every year. Nico was playing injured to start the season. Jack has played injured through parts of multiple seasons. Dougie played with a significant foot injury his first season in NJ and through a hand injury in the playoffs.

I wonder why he’s not moving as well as last year? Probably nothing to do with injury and it’s some bullshit you made up about how he fits on the team.

NHL Edge does such a terrible job presenting its data. All those numbers on the NHL Edge website are cumulative and do no adjustments for games played or ice time, so it makes all the players who have missed time due to injury look worse in these metrics than they actually are. If you adjust for minutes played, he is pretty much on track to have the same number speed bursts as he did last season.

Not saying he's not injured, just that the edge data doesn't indicate that he is moving worse out there than his usual.

Nope. His speed is way down.

Again... that doesn't show that his speed is down. Like I said before, those stats are percentiles based on the raw number of speed bursts, he has played 7 less games than other players which means he has had less chances to rack up those 18-20, 20-22 bursts which will obviously drop him in those percentiles, moreover, he is also playing about 3 mins less per game than in SJ thus further reducing the opportunities. If you normalize those number to the icetime, there is pretty much no difference for him between this and last season.

Top skating speed went from 73rd percentile to 57th percentile. Top shot speed went from 84th percentile to below 50th. Very obviously not the same player, by watching or statistically.

If he doesn't perform as expected soon, this contract is enough to eliminate the Devils chance to become a contender. What a disaster. Gave up so much too.

This guy speculated MCL or high ankle. Who knows. He isn’t Timo this year though.

Trouba concussed the guy back to Narnia last playoffs he's never gonna be the same.

He was their best forward in the Carolina series besides Jack and you can argue he was better than Jack too after that hit in said series, but thanks for trying for the hockey porn angle where a big hit ruined someone's career.

I strongly suspect he's suffering from a nagging injury. apparently the thinking in NJ is that he's useful even in this condition and there's no risk of aggravating the ailment. In a contract year he or his agent would probably insist that he shouldn't be allowed to play like this as it's quite damaging to his reputation and market value but with his contract it doesn't really matter I guess. I don't think it's the trouba hit but there have also been some various minor injuries

Have any of the random players the Devils acquired turned into something interesting, or just what you expect ?
Hatakka was about the only player that wasn’t just a contract slot. I think he has done decent with Utica but he is likely nothing more than a defensive #6/7 if things go right. Sharks fans used to be high in him from his wjc performance

If this thread is going to get bumped every time Meier goes on slump or a streak, it’s going to be a very, very long eight years.

Can we mutually agree to close it? Both teams are happy with the trade, nothing more to discuss…
