Matt Shaw is the power play guy. he was hired specifically for that. Barr works on the PK.

He got a shift last night and lost or failed to gain puck possession about 3 times in 1 shift since he just stood around not moving.

Our season and possible playoffs hinge on his shoulder right now. If hes out a week or two, alright we can try to survive. If hes out for the season, we have no chance at a cup.

Thankfully we only have one game between now and friday. He will have some time to heal.

He was with the Hornets when they were still in Charlotte. None of this Bobcats/Pelicans non-sense that we have with the current two franchises.

Wait! So in the NHL, two guys coach/work on the PP and PK separately?


Why? Can't one guy coach all of Special Teams?

They are two different entities with different personnel. And I believe the assistant coaches have more responsibility than 'just' coaching the PP and PK though that's their main gameday function.

And yes I DO blame the PP coach. Who's the one telling them to play musical chairs for 20 seconds every time they set up? I don't blame him for that 5 minute PP of doom though. No time to adjust, but let's see if he does now with Kovy out.

Matt Shaw was the man behind one of the best PP coaches of the past 5 years. Adam Oates ran one of the best power plays in the league in Tampa. I don't think coaching has anything to do with it anymore.

Can't really blame the coach when the same issues that have haunted the Devils PP for years have been the same under multiple PP coaches.

The roster isn't even too similar to when these PP woes began... must be a curse in the uniform or something.

The Devils haven't finished in the top 10 on the PP since the 2001-02 season.

Well, they did finish 11th on the PP that year, so it was pretty solid.

Funny thing is they went from a top 10 PP in 2001-02 to dead last in 2002-03. And we all remember how both of those seasons ended.
