Good luck. At 25 Johnny is what he is. A good ahl d man. Glad he's getting a shot in the bigs tho. Wasn't great or awful in his 4 Jets games

Habs don't need him to pan out long term, just a placeholder for a couple young D to get appropriately brought along.

Like the size. Is he a physical style Dman?

According to Dobber Prospects:

“An untapped offensive potential with a heavy shot, but plays with a physical edge around his net.”

Defensive D with a bit of physicality, but not much. Good teammate but never quite made the Jet’s core. Don’t like losing him at all, but good for his career, hopefully.

The truth is that either way The Habs will be terrible this year and this saves some of their D with real potential and lets them get more exp in the AHL.

Maybe he even turns out to be a decent 5-6 type guy and sticks around cheap....Either way its free so it doesn't hurt to try.

He's decently physical. Honestly I was always surprised by how much he got pushed around in NHL games though, not super sturdy on his feet along the boards.

He's defensively solid against AHL competition. He didn't look awful in his 4 Jets games, didn't stand out or wow you tho either but just 4 games. He could be a solid 3 rhd but he might not be either.

Not exactly QUITE the type of player I expected the Habs to claim (I expected a wee bit older and/or more experienced at NHL level.), but it was very, very obvious a RHS D-Men was getting claim, so as the Habs don't start the season with 4 rookies on D. ... Okay Kovacevic is technically a rookie, but that doesn't count. And he'd be at least a bit physical, which the team could use.

Kovacevic is a 6’4” 210lbs RD also was decent in the AHL so Kovacevic could either be a placeholder or a later bloomer as he will get a shot unless Montreal waives him tomorrow.

Eh... why exacatly would Montreal do so? (Not being facetious here)

Xhekaj and Stutzle have ruined all MTL or OTT related threads.
Can't wait till Xhekaj ruins Stutzle .

Frustrating. The guy was playing well in the Moose system and scored at a good clip last year. We are short on RHD in our pipeline and suddenly our best prospect gets plucked. Please waive him again, I’d rather have him back as a call up.
You saying that Kovacevic was your best prospect?

To try to stash him in Laval but if Winnipeg reclaimed him they could send him directly to Manitoba AHL unless another team placed a claim.

Calgary claimed Zohorna from Pittsburgh a few days ago and he is now on waivers again, so if he passes through unclaimed Calgary could send him to the AHL if not any other team could place a claim if Pittsburgh is the only team to place a claim then he would be sent to Wilkes-Barre AHL.
