Interesting that they won't be having much of a 'selection camp' per say. I know I'm no expert but you'd think they'd atleast want to see some of the guys earn their spots through competition rather than just handing it to them.

I don't think they will. They'll only take two and use the extra roster spot on Reinhart, as he's facing a suspension. If one of Paterson or Fucale gets hurt then they can fly another tender over. Last year was the first time they took three, and it's only because UFA is so far. It's in Sweden this year so there's really no need to bring three.

Ah, I just assumed they went with 2 when the tournament was in North America and 3 overseas...I guess Malmo's close enough to get someone there in 24 hours to be a backup.

I think it makes sense for Team Canada to only take 2 goalies for such a short tournament. I'd rather have Comrie playing in the W than sitting in the stands or on the bench for a couple of weeks. If he keeps up his good play, he's a very likely candidate for next year.

Petan and Morrissey will both make the final cut and will be two of the better players for Canada.

Sssshhh!

I'm getting beaked on the main Prospects Board for over-hyping Morrissey. It seems that he' just a powerplay specialist, and it's "a joke" that he made the Team Canada selection camp over Nurse. :D

Meh. Let them keep thinking that. When they realize they have Cam Barker part 2 (all the tools, not even a bag to keep them together with) and Morrissey is manning the 2nd pairing for us, we will have the last laugh.

No worries... supporting Morrissey is a pretty easily-defended position.

I'm not sure how Nurse will turn out, but there are obviously a few concerns. Morrissey looks to have a ton of skill and very good hockey sense. I expect he'll be a very nice NHL D. His upside might ultimately be top-pair.

It's obviously not an entire fanbase, but a lot of Oiler fans are acting like babies right now.

No surprise there.

Well, you can kind of understand why they are so sensitive. They have had pretty terrible management, and despite incredible luck in the Lottery, they don't seem to be able to build a strong system.

Seems like the best place for this:

Igor Eronko ‏@IgorEronko 2h
Nichushkin, Grigorenko, Tolchinsky, Goldobin, Zharkov, Tkachev are not invited #TeamRussia #WJC

Not sure what their team will look like but that seems like an awful lot of talent to leave behind..

Yea I am just avoiding it now and letting the fans that are butt hurt have their hissy fit. If it helps to vent then have at it but it feels just like a Jets PGT after a loss. I don't get why everyone thought Nurse was going to be gift wrapped a spot.....he ok but he is an 18 year old and he really sucked in both OHL games in the subway series. Although that is small sample size it is a red flag and yet his fan base seems shocked that 8 pretty gifted kids were selected ahead of him? Hey I really like Morrissey and felt he was good enough to be chosen but if he crapped the bed when I was watching his two games against the Russian's I might have managed my expectations a bit more. I am happy our boys are in but if they didn't make it so be it. Sutter had earned the right to call the shots. It’s a tournament that will have no bearing on how they eventually turn out as pros and the snubbed are acting like it is the end of the world.

Nurse should be on the team.

There were a lot of guys who weren't great during the Series but still got invites. I didn't think Petan was great but he still got an invite. You know why? Because he is having a fantastic season and has a skill set that no one else has. I could replace Petan with Nurse in the above and it would be true.

I can't argue with Sutter because his record is what it is but that omission is a big time head scratcher for me. A guy with all that talent, size, skill and having a great season gets cut because "he tried to do too much during a couple of games". That is just nonsense. If we lose they will moan about not having all the talent there but they go a cut a guy like that.

Joe: the SSS sealed his fate - the complaint about trying to do too much was a long standing one, and the SSS hammered the point home. He didn't adjust, and that helped them make their decision.

Agreed. Someone on the prospect board put it better, but it's not as if Hockey Canada hasn't been watching these guys all year.

They didn't go from having a guy like Nurse as a lock on their roster, and then changed their minds overnight after the SSS. They probably didn't like some aspects of his game all season, and were watching to see if some of those things improved. The SSS was probably just the last opportunity for some guys to show HC what HC wanted to see, and Nurse was probably just still showing the things that HC didn't like all year.

And it's not like anyone was left off the roster for a scrub. There are a few less well known names, but for the most part almost everyone on the roster is a pretty high end prospect.

Just a gut feeling but I think Petan gets cut and Canada goes with one of those bigger grinder types. I also think Morrissey makes the team and has an incredible tournament.

There's only going to be two forwards cut and there's worse offensive style forwards that are already on the roster. Personally I can't see him getting cut. Sutter has already stated he's looking at Drouin and Petan to be the offensive backbone to the team.

Yeah, I don't think people realize how good Petan is at this level. Watch him play. He is not a typical small forward.

Joe I went to the Oliers board to see how they reacted and the feedback was pretty balanced I pipelined this quote from one poster because I thought it was relevant to the topic:

I'm not here to flame or insult, I can acknowledge your team is filled with talent, but as a Greyhound fan and avid watcher... This should have been expected.

Nurse is still a player I would describe as "clumsy" and tends to get really bad when he faces a tough stretch. He's always one bad game away from being a disaster and I think that's part of the reasoning for this.

As you know the tools are there and the upside absolutely shines when you watch him, he's just got to grow into his frame and make better decisions. He will, but as of now his play doesn't warrant the big stage. Especially given his competition.
