I don't think people understand how impressive it is for someone to win the scoring title on the 18th best scoring team in the league. Every one above McD plays on a team that scores .5 or more goals per game. That may not sound impressive, but over a year thats 50 some more goals. if you get points on 1/3 (below McD's average) of those goals you are easily winning the scoring title.

Horribly sick for 1 month. Lucic boat anchor for 2 months. That's half a season of bad handicaps and he's still right there :)

Art Ross and Ted Lindsay for Connor.
Book it.

He's by far the MVP to his team but I doubt he wins. I think it goes to Mackinnon due to the huge turnaround by the Avs this season. When was the last time a player won the MVP on a bottom 10 team?

I agree that Mackinnon should get the Hart. Where would the Av's be without him?
Most certainly not in the playoffs.

Just for reference what is the lowest scoring team an Art Ross winner has won the trophy on?

Interesting question. The real comparison is where the team sits in relative goal-production. If McDavid wins this year it will be completely ridiculous. Even last year was a bit of an outlier, but this year... wait for it...

Winners:
McDavid 2017 - EDM 2.96 g/game (8th)
Kane 2016 - CHI 2.85 (6th)
Benn 2015 - DAL 3.13 (2nd)
Crosby 2014 - PIT 3.0 (4th)
St. Louis 2013 - Tampa 3.06 (3rd)
Malkin 2012 - PIT 3.33 (1st)
Sedin 2011 - VAN 3.15 (1st)
Sedin 2010 - VAN 3.27 (2nd)
Malkin 2009 - PIT 3.15 (6th)
Ovechkin 2008 - WAS 2.93 (7th)
Crosby 2007 - PIT 3.26 (4th)...

McDavid this year - EDM scoring 2.84 goals per game (18th overall).

The last time anything remotely like this happened was when Iginla won the Art Ross on a 22nd-overall scoring Flames, 01-02.

Colorado: 85 more power plays than the Oilers.
Tampa: 64 more power plays than the Oilers.
Pittsburgh: 46 more power plays than the Oilers.

Easy to see where those rivals for the Art Ross are loading up on their pts.

Oilers play Lady Byng teams every game it seems in the view of (heads up their asses) NHL refs.

Now of course the Oilers PP is shit so there's that... but even considering that shit PP... if you gave it 46-85 more chances that would put McDavid well up in the scoring race... more so if you actually had some legit PP talent for McDavid to play with (but that's a job for this summer when they finally add a PP point man... hopefully.. maybe... please?)

This race is so tight, wow. It wouldn't even be a conversation if the shitass refs gave penalties to everyone slashing and hacking at McDavid. But they'd have to score on them...yeaaah I'm just reaching.

For sure. Kucherov makes a living getting 1 or 2 pts on a team often scoring 7 goals/night and with the best offensive D in the game. With a team entirely structured for offense and playing in the weak ass EC. Connor would blow up the NHL playing on a scoring deep club playing most of his games in the loose checking EC. With apologies to Pens and Bruins who are good in that regard.

Theres only 3 good teams in the East Bruins, Lightning, Pens. Caps are not even in that group and never have been as far as being contenders.

Theres 8 clubs in the west that would give any of the best in the East a decent run in a 7 game series.

The Pens though have disguised the imbalance.

Got off topic there, haha.

But put McD on an EC team with scoring talent and he puts up 125pts. Seriously. Its not even close race.

Hmm, where is that 'Change Vote' button...

Didn't think he'd actually do it, and it's going to be tough for him to hang on. However, it would be awesome to see him hit 100 during Tuesday's Fan Appreciation Night.

If only our PP wasn't a complete disaster this season. Connor would be running away with the Art Ross and probably the Ted Lindsay. Thank god we still have Woodcroft because...blind loyalty or something? Yeah I dunno.

what McDavid is doing at his age is phenomenal alone. To do this on a bottom 10 team is astonishing when factor age and linemates.

Imagine if Lucic finished on some more McDavid plays this season.

Sure he should win, just wonder what McDavid could do i he had decent wingers like MacKinnon have in Landeskog and Rantanen.

McDavid has had Draisaitl for much of the season...pretty decent winger.
McDavids 5x5 scoring is tops the NHL by quite a bit...the issue for him is less about a winger and more about a power play that has some teeth.

It’s unreal to think how many more points Connor could have if we had a better power play.

If the day ever comes where we have a strong offensive group to support Connor (two more top 6 wingers), production from the back end and a half decent PP, I think Connor can hit 130 points.
