They most certainly did not, it was easily broken by Friedman before anyone even got a whiff of it.

DLC is literally the French Eklund

Not exactly. I’d say Hockey30 is the French Eklund. DLC is slightly more evolved and has broken some stories, trades and rumours that have panned out.

I read both daily mainly for shits and giggles.

Just give him 12.5 millions and deal other players and keep him happy and build your dynasty. No point being so fussy. He is the Leafs best player and he is quite young... pay him and enjoy the talent!

The guy set a career record 26 goals this season and is coming off an ELC.

Skinner scored 40 and north of 26 a total of 5 times.

Skinner deserves the higher AAV in my books. Anyone paying 12.5 (including the Leafs) and 4 first round picks is not going to be happy with the results.

Poor leafs, bad timing with the paradigm shift of RFA as all their big guns are taking NO discount and milking Duby for all he is worth.

Should be interesting.

Marner can do whatever he likes. If moving away from his childhood dreams and making more money instead of a fair offer is what he wants, there’s the door. He won’t get the love at home and pretty sure he’ll lose quite a few endorsements and sponsors in the way out.
Maybe he wore PJs of the NHL team who would give him $12.5M in the future when he was a child.

Leaf fans should be happy for him!

This is either the Leaf s or Marner's agent, or both, chumming the waters so that when Marner ends up signing for $10,000,000 - $11,000,000 his camp can say he took a discount and Dubas' camp can say that they got him for less than what he could have gotten.
Just softening up the fan base.

Signing a fat contract with a $12.5M AAV... AND surrendering four 1st round picks... is ****ing insane.

That’s a reckless investment that assumes an absurd amount of risk. I don’t care how good Marner is; you’re a fool if you think that’s a good idea.
for a superstar generational talent ? sign me up any times.

we talking about Marner... a top 3 winger in the league.

If I'm Marner I would be pissed getting offers like 10,5 M$ after what Skinner got I know people will tell me that Skinner was UFA and all but after the season Marner had. Damn 30 more points than Skinner in his 3rd season I would tell myself that this isn't 1.5M$ more. But hey Leafs fans I will just worry what Rantanen will be getting before thinking what Marner will  Can't wait to see some actions though I'm bored at work.
This. Nothing really makes sense anymore. The league needs a market correction. 12.5 sounds brutal for marner. But 2.5 more than skinner sounds like a bargain. Depends how you look at it. One dimensional scoring wingers like skinner are getting stupid money now and throwing everything out of whack. I thought eichel’s contract was bad, but seeing a franchise 1C making 1.5 more than skinner is insane.

Hey 4 1st's even mid/late 1sts ain't to shabby. Especially when you consider we would have our 1sts as well. Say the Leafs and Habs picks are 10-20th we can put both together to get into the top 10 each yr
The only issue with this philosophy is that starting next season the Leafs have 5 years to win with Matthews. At this point nobody knows what he will want to do at the end of that and Tavares is never going to be better than he is now. Giving up a core player for those crucial years in favour of a mid 1st round pick over the next 4 years may extend the Leafs playoff window, but it sure as hell isn't likely to help them get close to the cup. Most of those players might not even see NHL time until Matthews contract is expiring and Tavares is past his prime. Unless the Leafs have some deal ready to bring in someone like Erik Karlsson this summer then I don't see how letting Marner go is ever the right decision.

The $12.5 million would be tough to swallow, but I'd have zero issue with the 4 firsts if the Pens pulled the trigger. Look at where the Pens have drafted in the first round the past 4 seasons, then look at who they took. Hell, go back 10 years and I'd still do *all* those players for Marner.

4 first round picks is only risky for teams who aren't guaranteed to contend and could possibly see one or more of those firsts turn into a Top 5 pick. It's not so risky for teams who draft in the 20+ range every year.

as a Leaf fan, this makes me feel better not worse. If someone is willing to offer him $12.5M that has the required offer sheet compensation and the cap space to fit him, have at it. It's the $10.8x4 offers that scare me, not long term overpayments

Lol. Good luck contending if he signs anything close to that.
12.5M is plenty fair for a young, superstar winger.

You living in 2019, bro? Jeff Skinner type UFAs are worth 9M per now. 22 year old superstars, even RFA ones, who have yet to hit their prime years, are worth considerably more than that.

A Quebec blogger that has occasionally broken some stories.

Ah just a blogger so no real credibility whatsoever Yeah that's what I thought

I mean I know you said he's "occasionally" broken stories so has Eklund namely Cater to Columbus, Richards to LA, Heatly for Hossa, Franson to Toronto .

That doesn't make credible it just means he throws enough shit at the wall that about 1% of it sticks.

So basically Max Truman is French Eklund

Why, those would be instantly matched...
