Calgary has no picks in the first or second round this year.....? Maybe he is still a buyer, because Jim Carey says there still a chance...

If one is the Habs GM and smart they don't go after picks in 2018. They go after picks in 2019 and 2020 where teams will be a little more willing to let go of a first or second they won't be thinking about for a while.

The Canadiens also have three second round picks already in 2018. What are we gonna try to collect them all?

Exactly. MB did well a few years ago when he was acquiring picks for drafts a year or two down the road. We saw them have more picks last year and this year also. We are now seeing the benefit of future picks being acquired. With 2018 in pretty good shape, it would be wise to continue down this road by getting 2019 and 2020 picks.

Their 2019 and 2020 1st round picks are available. However, their 2019 and 2020 2nd round picks are part of a conditional pick they sent to Isles for Hamonic. The condition of that pick is that if Flames qualify for playoffs this year, Islanders get the 2020 second. If Flames don't qualify, Isles get their 2019 second. So Flames can't give away either of those picks until they know if they qualify this year or not.

Bergevin has to know how despised he is...no?

He's a narcissist, he doesn't care, as long as he has himself in the mirror calling back to him, saying "oh Marc, you're the hunkiest and best GM ever, it's just puck luck, it'll turn, now keep your chin up and don't forget to flex in photo ops, everyone loves you and you'll always have lil-G gushing over you."

We should all send him messages that not only is he the greatest GM there ever was, but he is the best ever looking and is a world top fashion model with the clothes he wears ... he'll be so overwhelmed, maybe his head will explode. :naughty:

Shaw is absolutely horrible fit for the habs.
Hes a depth forward for a team that actually has offense

Shaw and Eller are both really good depth players that won't do anything for a bad team. They are secondary scorers who add two way play and add jam and possession respectively, the type of guys who make a difference on teams like Chicago and Washington but giving a guy like Shaw a big contract to play on a mediocre team like Montreal is worthless. It doesn't matter how much fire Shaw shows in the playoffs if he isn't going to make it there.

Rearranging depth players like Bergevin is obsessed with doing while the actual core slowly falls apart is a guarantee this team will get far worse before it gets better.

It could change quickly if he starts taking the right decision.

I'm surprised Plekanec has not already been sold. It's not a secret some teams are looking for a defensive center (there's always teams looking for defensive centers with experience). Would we get more at the deadline? Maybe. But we are taking the risk he injures himself or the teams needed a defensive center find a solution somewhere else. Vanek was the perfect proof you don't always get more at the deadline for a player. If i was the GM i would move Plekanec as quickly as i could and i would not ask for the moon. It's a guy you can't afford to not trade before the deadline and MB is playing a very dangerous game by waiting. Retain the max and trade him asap.
