Season series: The Philadelphia Flyers won two of three games against the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2014-15. Philadelphia goalie Steve Mason made 30 saves in a 1-0 win at Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 31. Flyers center Claude Giroux had three goals and three assists. Phil Kessel, now with the Pittsburgh Penguins, had a goal and three assists for the Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs team scope: Goalie James Reimer, whose .934 save percentage is second in the NHL to Philadelphia's Michal Neuvirth (.936), will start. Toronto has lost five in a row, all in regulation. The Maple Leafs have scored four goals in four games since losing forward James van Riemsdyk for 6-8 weeks because of a broken foot. Van Riemsdyk's 29 points (14 goals) led Toronto at the time he was injured. "We've got to get a win here quick and get our confidence back," center Tyler Bozak told the Maple Leafs website Monday. "It's tough to win, and anyone can beat anyone. This time of the year, wins are really important, and you want to get in the race and in the (postseason) hunt. We're trying to catch a lot of teams here, so we want to win these big games we have coming up before the (All-Star) break."

Flyers team scope: Philadelphia, which has won five of six (5-0-1) following a 2-1 shootout win at the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday, did not practice Monday after playing back-to-back games over the weekend. Forward Wayne Simmonds, who has two goals and an assist in the past three games, said Neuvirth and Mason have been big reasons for the Flyers' recent success. "I've been saying all year that both our goalies have been lights-out," Simmonds told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Monday. "And [Neuvirth] did it again [Sunday]. He made some point-blank saves and kept us in the game." Giroux, who scored in regulation, had a shootout goal and won 78 percent of faceoffs against Detroit, has five points in the past three games and leads the Flyers with 35.

So Reimer is in net for tonight. Either Babcock likes him more over Bernier or management wants him to play more to try to increase his trade value by the deadline.

Either we get Reimer his first win since Nov 20 or we extend our longest losing streak of the season to 6 tonight. Blue Jackets can past us with a win tonight too if we lose but they're up against Washington so thats kinda unlikely.

EDIT: can someone help put a GDT Tag to it?

Maybe they are alternating games?

Until the math don't work no more...

GO LEAFS GO!!!

Reimer is healthy so he's you starter. Why is this hard to figure out for some?

Bernier played the second night of a back to back game.

Reimer's numbers are MILES superior this season.

Good call Babs.

I was wondering when the Flyers would get there stuff together. Looks like they're on a roll now but I think it'll be a close game today.

Maple Leafs-Philadelphia Flyers: Tuesday game preview

With wins in five of their last six games, the Flyers are three points behind Boston for the top wild-card spot.

By: Mark Zwolinski Sports reporter, Published on Mon Jan 18 2016

WELLS FARGO CENTER

Puck drop: 7 p.m.

TV: TSN4

Radio: Sportsnet 590 The Fan

Key matchup:Claude Giroux vs. Matt Hunwick.

Flyers captain Giroux has been a large part of his team’s resurgence over the past two months. He scored in regulation and in the shootout Sunday to help Philadelphia defeat Detroit 2-1. Along with his outstanding offence, he is excellent on the faceoff dot, and will present a big challenge for Hunwick as the Leafs try and snap a five-game winless streak.

On the outside: Philly was eight points out of a playoff spot on Nov. 25 with no games in hand against the teams they were chasing. But now, with wins in five of their last six games, the Flyers are three points behind Boston for the top wild-card spot. They had a damaging 1-6-2 run earlier in the season but are 15-7-4 since. Philadelphia won in the shootout over Detroit but are an NHL worst 32-66 in the shootout since the NHL adopted the tie-breaker in 2005. They are 12-2-8 in one goal games so far this season.

Between the pipes: Goaltender Michael Neuvirth had 29 saves against Detroit Sunday in his first game action since Jan. 5. He improved his league-leading save percentage to .936 and is seventh in GAA at 2.05.

Welcome back: Rookie defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere returned to the lineup Sunday — was out with a suspected groin injury — and took over his old spot on the top pairing for the Flyers’ power play. Gostisbehere has been an integral part of the team’s success and should get mention in the NHL rookie of the year race.

Up next: Thursday vs. Carolina Hurricanes, 7:30 pm, Sportsnet.

I think the math shows that Matthews is a more realistic target than the playoffs at this point.

We're probably around 1% to make the playoffs and around 13% to draft 1st overall

That doesn't change the posters point who you quoted. Reimer is the starter and trying to discredit it with lame theories such as only to raise his trade value is a little silly. The team could tank with any goalie currently at the rate they are scoring.

My post didn't have anything to do with Reimer or Bernier. I just figured the Go Leafs Go part was just about cheering for them till they're mathematically out of the playoffs.

But yeah, personally I find choosing a side when it comes to goalies on the same team is kind of dumb.

5% right now.

Win or lose, I cheer and believe this is a no lose scenario season no matter the outcome.

Damn neuvirth's numbers. I literally forget the flyers exist sometimes, they just disappeared the last couple if years. I just don't care much about them.
