It won't be him.
Yea probably not. Gleason was terrible for the Canes this season.

Cody Franson and Paul Ranger are in the dog house with the fans now. I don't know why Morgan Rielly continues to get a pass for his poor 5v5 defensive play just because he's a hot prospect. Why should Paul Ranger be scratched? Ranger was actually playing well with Gardiner this season. Ranger's poor performances have usually come from playing with Rielly and Fraser. Why not scratch Morgan Rielly or send him down to the WHL? Rielly's defensive skills are not at a NHL level. His 5v5 goals against rate is absurdly high. He needs to be sent back to the WHL and then join the AHL when he's eligible (at 20 I believe). He's not ready for the big league yet. This is a professional hockey club. Not a prospect development club. Ice time is not given. It's earned. It's not going to hurt his development to play a partial season in the WHL and then spend some time in the AHL after before returning to the NHL. I wish they could send him to the AHL right now because his current skill level is too much for those boys. At least he would be able to play with men in the AHL.

Kadri scored a hat trick against the Isles last year, maybe this is the game he wakes up for us. Couldn't come at a better time with the team struggling to find secondary scoring.

He is trying things that he wasnt before. Risky passes

I think he needs a goal to get him going

Only 1 line effective at the moment

There are so many great teams in this league to emulate...yet the Leafs can't figure out a way to play a game where they look semi-decent in their own zone.

It's going to be fun watching the Islanders dominate us. We're no different than the basement teams. We just have better goaltending than them.

They try to play like Pittsburgh. Fine and dandy, but they get away with it because they have the best player in all of hockey and another that's likely top 5.

There's a serious disconnect somewhere, I'm just not sure where it is.

I hope we blow out the islanders with a JVR hat trick, there fans seem to believe JVR didn't deserve his Olympic roster spot.

Agreed, ashton would be the one who is more ideal.

However I really hope for the love of god there is a trade...we need franson out.

I like cody as a person but man he is a PP specialist and thats it.
Big time liability in own end

Rielly is too young to play in the AHL. It's NHL or back to Junior hockey.

I really think the Leafs made a mistake with keeping Rielly in the NHL. IMHO, he should have been sent back to the WHL and been allowed to play for Canada at the WJHT.

And, we traded a more useful player in Liles to add another terrible D to our long list of terrible Ds!

Way to go Carlyle and Nonis! :shakehead

I hope Gleason can prove he can regain his form here, but, I'm skeptical that he can at this point. ;)

After last game I almost don't even want to bother watching this one. The only reason I'm going to is to see how Gleason does in a Leafs jersey.

We tend to suck against the Islanders but on the plus side, Matt Moulson won't be scoring his obligatory goal against us now that he's gone. Although Frans Nielsen probably will - so will Casey Cizikas.

18th in the NHL. We need to string some losses together for tank to get stronger.

:yo:

At least this way, I won't be disappointed when they lose.

I like Leivo a lot and hes an Innisfil boy, so im also biased ;).

For the life of me, as horrible as the D has been all season, what the hell does TJ Brennan have to do to get a shot? Leading the Marlies in points and playing all the important minutes.

Sit Ranger and Franson and put in Gleason and Brennan. It cant be any worse, I mean really.

re: Brennan - I think it's pretty obvious.... He is an offensive dman only. Defensively not so much, certainly not better than any current D on the defensive side of the puck. Basically a mobile slapshot.

Gleason should make his debut tonight. That lack of heart performance (if you can call it a performace) on Saturday was disgusting. What a jekyll and hyde team they are this year....

What they need is to play like last year. The roster isn't much different, in fact they added, without losing much of the grit, etc. they had success with. They don't hit, don't forecheck, don't make it hard to play in the ACC. They don't respond to lacklustre efforts (sometimes you need a fight or a big hit to wake the boys up). Yes, Orr tried on Saturday, but had no luck with Boyle.

How can a team with Bolland (OK, yes he is injured), Kadri, Phaneuf, Fraser (if he plays), Clarkson, Orr, McLaren be so lacking in grit, toughness (not nec fighting).

I think we should roll these lines for the game;

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Holland
Clarkson - Mcclement - Kulimen
Damigo - Raymond? - Bodie

Phaneuf - Rielly
Gardiner - Gleason
Ranger - Franson

If playing holland on the 4th line means wasting a 2nd round pick we should send him down, otherwise we should try him out on the wing in the top6. Don't know where to put Raymond for the time being, not his biggest fan, but maybe try him out centering a 4th line that can actually play. I'd also like to see how rielly does with phaneuf. They look pretty good together at times. Not suggesting this as a permanent solution but more so an experiment with holland and rielly.

to put kadri on the 4th line is pretty stupid imo. i would rather bench him then put him on the 4th line.

i also dont see why damigo wouldnt play. how much toughness is on the islanders that it requires both orr and mclaren. i think it needs to be one or the other.

id like to see,

jvr-bozak-kessel
lupul-kadri-kulemin
raymond-holland-clarkson
damigo-mclemment-orr/mclaren

phaneuf-gunnarson
gardiner-gleason
rielly-franson

reimer

lets see if gardiner can do better with someone who might be able to play actual defense.

lets see if franson/rielly can do better in a more sheltered roll.

lets see if clarkson does better with a more north/south style center like holland and against less quality opposition.

lets see if lupul and kadri can get kulemin going.

lets see if reimer can step up his game and really show why he should be the starter

you cant possibly argue this trade, they basically traded a player who they arent using for another player whose style is more suited for what the team teams, at worst case scenerio gleason is **** and the trade becomes a wash...its a great trade for both teams..zero risk with potential reward

If you want to make decision on Kadri you have to give him every opportunity to succeed.
JVR...Kadri...Lupul

Recall Smithson for the 4th line.
Let's see what Holland can do on the wing. He has some size, can snipe and play 2 way.
Maybe a line of Holland...Bozak...Kessel.
Checking line of Raymond...McClement...Kulemin.

This is why I'm losing faith in Carlyle. His player personnel selection and lineup formulation is puzzling at times! We don't need to dress both Orr and McLaren against most teams.

I can see demoting Kadri to the 3rd line, but, not the 4th! Holland should be given more minutes on the 2nd line IMHO. ;)
