Exactly... better choice than the rumoured Elliott. Goalie depth is never a bad thing. At the current time, only 12 teams even have the cap space to make a waiver claim, and that could drop further by the start of the season.

Having insurance, and a competent third goalie is a good move.

I'm kind of surprised that Jones took a contract like this. I figured he'd hope that he could still be a top two in the NHL, after starting 48 games, and winning 27. I guess the writing is on the wall, but I can't think of too many teams with more experience as their 3G.

This is a decent 3rd stringer insurance signing. He's not good but should be fine to bounce between the Marlies and the Leafs.
