We don't need no more stinkin wingerz! The cost to move up this year is less than other years. We need to make a move to get A quality C if it is there. They say you cant go wrong with the top 4 this year. In other words if a quality C drops to a spot we can get for the right price we need that move. This team has spun its wheels without a number one C,D and it is the cornerstone to a cup team.We also need size for our top 6, we have skill on the wings.

Actually, a piece that gets a top D would be more useful to the Leafs right now. Ekblad over Reinheart, because the Leafs can sign a guy like Stastny in the off-season.

i really hope you mean brennan is the best defenseman in the ahl not nhl.

It really doesn't matter either way, the kid aint sticking around. He'll sign somewhere else where he'll get an opportunity. It was proven this year he's not a 'Carlyle Guy' (whatever the hell that has proven to be, certainly not a winner). Why would he trust re-upping here and getting a decent shot to crack the big club? It doesn't matter to these yocals that his HC all year says he has done everything defensively they've asked of him, they blather on about +/- like it's the gospel deciding factor on a d guys true worth, like nobody else was on the ice at the time. You have no idea how his skillset and his improvements translate to the NHL until he's given regular shifts and icetime.

I was playing aroun on cap geek the other day and came up with an interesting roster.

Firstly i dumped phaneuf and riemer
Resigned holland gardiner damigo

Jvr Stastny Kessel
Lupol Bozak setagucci
Komarov kadri clarkson
Damigo holland leivo/orr

Niskanen Gunnarson
Rielly Gardiner
Gleason granberg

Bernier
Peters

Cap wise it could work and it would certainly be entertaining.
That third line would drive teams nuts.
What do you guys think?

I went one step further and traded Bozak for Thornton as well...

This leaves us nearly 5M in cap space as well, all appropriate raises have been accounted for and room to spare if we need to doll out a little more for Stastny.

I'm merely speculating. Interesting fun fact. Toronto is in the top 5 of teams in the NHL that players WANT to play for.

Not that anyone would doubt it but what are you basing that on?

That's precisely why I made this roster, working with what we have. Danny Boyle is available and has a good year or two left. Vanek is available...

You see right now you lost all credibility... Because you seriously did not want ANY of the playoffs if you think Thomas Vanek is an ideal candidate to help instill a culture change. If you don't believe me please feel free to go back and review the NYR series between MTL and NYR because Vanek was a non factor. Nor was he a factor in the BOS series.

As for Danny Boyle he has stated he wants to play for a contender and we are in no shape or form a Stanley Cup contender...

Realistic:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Clarkson
Komarov-Holland-Ashton
Ashton-McClemment-Bodie

Phaneuf-XXX
Gardiner-Gunnar
Rielly-Granberg/Gleason

Bernier
XXX

And I'd be okay with this, At least you know that bottom six will give an honest effort, and no need for Colton Orr's scrub ass on this roster. Bodie can play the game of hockey, Orr is a black-hole of a player that ruins teams balance, but this is a coaching fall more than anything.

"Dream" Roster(Dream used loosely)

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Stastny-Bolland
Komarov-Holland-Ashton
D'Amigo-McClemment-Bodie

Phaneuf-Giordano
Gardiner-Gunnar
Rielly-Granberg

Gleason Bought out
Kadri+Franson(+?) for Giordano

A cold place
Heres my take, id prefer to stay away from major free agent.

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri- ________
D'Amigo - Holland - Clarkson
Mclaren/ Bodie - Mcclemment- Komarov
T. Smith & Mclaren/ Bodie

For forwards, i dont think Levio is ready to make the jump yet. Give him a look and make the decision at the end of pre season but i can see him fitting well on the third line. Youve got Bodie and Mclaren on the forth line to act as the enforcers, if your playing a tough team and dont want things getting out of hand then ice Mclaren, if its a softer team and you dont expect many fireworks then play Bodie as he is a more well rounded player. Players like Ashton can also get a pre season look and make the decision on them then. We are still missing a 2nd line center

Phaneuf- Gunner
Rielly - _______
Gardiner- Gleason

For defense, i dont have any healthy scratches these should be filled by Marlies call ups that will secure a spot after preseason. I LOVE Macwilliam but i think he might need another season. Brennan is great too but he is pretty one dimensional. We need to make the decision on them after pre season. Id like to get a defensively sound 4th defensemen to play with Rielly to give him some freedom and let him use his creativity.

Bernier
MacIntyre

I think Mac needs to get a look, he played fantastically for the Marlies over the past two years and he deserves to get the look. He played decently when Beriner was hurt as well. Some are scared by having a old 'no name' goalie as a backup but at one point Tim Tomas was an old no name goalie as well.

If we just sign Moulson and Boyle...

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Moulson
Ashton-Holland-Clarkson
D'amigo-Smith-Bodie

Phaneuf-Boyle
Gardiner-Gunnarson
Gleason-Rielly

Bernier
Cheap Back-up

That's pretty solid. Would still underachieve with Randy but looks good on paper. Somewhat realistic?
