Rules of the road have changed in the NHL over the last few years--scoring is up. More important than ever to have a goalie who can shake off a goal and re-set mentally, because chances are you're giving up 2 or 3 even on a good night. This mental approach does not seem to be Cal's strong suit, like a lot of goalies who rely on precision in their technique.

To steal a maxim from golf, a goalie's most important save is the next one.

Here are the best goalies that would have been UFAs this offseason if we had let Cal go...funny we have history with the top 2. But really not much to have put full faith in. Kuemper would have been interesting but also UFAs = risk they might not sign with you and we could have been left holding the bag and signing Halak or something

The only one I’d ‘want’ is Kuemper, after that there’s slim pickings and a lot of risk. No way you take Campbell at that price, it would have been a case of “out of the frying pan…”
