McAvoy or Carlo are not Chara. Great young guys on D but they are not intimidating and hard to play against like Chara is. If Chara is back, your team D should be the same. Without him? We will see in future season. Replacing him won't be easy. He's still playing top 4D minutes and very tough to play against in his own end. He's lost offensive ability but man... Many guys are still scared of him in his own end. Enjoying it while you can!

Can't remember who said it but I think it was Kevin Bieksa... Other guys on the Bruins play bigger cause Chara is on their team. Agree or not but Bieksa knows what he is talking about and I had the same opinion before he said it.

Chris Strewart also said that when Chara comes at you... you plan dead like he is a real bear or you will get ripped apart . Funny but very true.

Who exactly plays big on the Bruins? Marchand maybe? It’s not like they are on the ice together much any more when the Bergeron line is getting o-zone time and Chara getting d-zone time...

Why not just keep Krug, instead of going for a UFA?
Chara on the bottom pair is okay, but he’s still better along the walls and net front and PK than McAvoy. Yes, McAvoy is a top pairing D man, but is Grylcyk?

They have been playing together since college. Gryz is a 2nd pair dman that plays well with McAvoy. 60% corsi those guys together the last few years.

Because Krug is a pp specialist about to get paid like a 1st pair guy.

If you sign Krug you can’t address the issues in the lineup

ES play& secondary scoring need to improve, again add Hall and a better defensive LD and we are talking business

That 2nd pair is the match up pair, and Chara does what he does from the 3rd pair

Boston ices DeBrusk-Krejci-Kase 2nd line and nobody needs to be afraid of Cup party in Boston

So in short we need different type of players and premium talent up front

Bruins will have a lot of room without Krug, Moore, Rask, Chara, Miller, Nordstrom, And now Wagner.

Frederick, Zboril and Senyshyn ready to play at cheap money.

Could Boston pursue Pietrangelo?
Think that would depend a lot on if they want to bludgeon the internal salary structure that they’ve established.

I’d guess no, but it’s interesting to think about the possibilities it would open up

Can’t disagree. Think it would certainly sewer any thought you’d have about upgrading the forward unit in an appreciable way.

I still think, not even going the Hall route, we will see some guys get pried loose from teams this offseason we never heard were available. Some teams might not want to spend to the cap the next several years.

Welcome to Detroit is pretty much all I gotta say at this point. We have exactly one injury prone top 4 LHD on the roster, the cap space to give him the money, he makes us more exciting right away and we are his (likely) childhood team. He picks up right where Green left off to spearhead our dreadful PP and lead the charge offensively from the blueline. My hope is Stevie is able to get him at $7.5M but for no more than 6 years.

So a team will probably well over-pay for him, try and make him a top pairing d-man when he's not, and end up regretting the deal ? Sounds like Buffalo would be a good fit.

Highly unlikely. The Blues just dealt Allen to free up money to re-sign Pietrangelo. And Pietrangelo said he wants to stay in St. louis, so.

A more entertaining thought would be Krug going to the STL. Move a few pieces and that suddenly looks feasible. But would they?

I have thought all along the Bruins have not resigned Krug because they plan to use that money to sign Hall.

There defense is still strong as is with out Krug but I wouldn’t be surprised if they look to add another top 4 left dman on a reasonable contract via trade.

Gryz-McAvoy
Lauzon-Carlo
Chara-Zboril
Vaak-Clifton

That's a allstar defense core. They go after hall big time.

Losing Krug, and having their top centres 35 and 36? Maybe the Bruins need to go all in right now? Can’t afford to lose Krug right now. What’s left in their window: 1 or 2 years?

So sign krug long term because our window has a year or two left. Terrible reasoning to lock him in. We do need to build a complete team for that window though. We sorely need scoring wingers more than we need Krug back

Losing Krug isn’t an issue.

Of course if Sweeney adds absolutely nothing this summer then yeah
