Hughes has a plan. It's clearly not your plan. He has zero interest to leave the long term faith of the team to luck at the draft. That's not how you rebuild. That's how you become another Buffalo, Arizona and Edmonton: teams that sucks for decades.

Eddy isn't going anywhere. Hughes wants 4 veterans dmen to shelter the prospects dmens if they struggle. He's going to acquire another one before the season start (a RD).

Getting Dach was a good move. There might have been talent on the board, but none that would play on the NHL in a top 9 center position next season and that was a team need. As a bonus, he has untapped potential to be a top 6 center. Also, like for the Matheson trade, Hughes asked questions to his entourage. Had Dach not fit into what he wanted to build, he wouldn't have traded for him.

MSL clearly didn't like Poehling, lots of posters realized that toward the end of the season. He wasn't going to stay.

Expect more prospects the new management doesn't like to be shipped to dump contracts this summer.
Hard to get to Finals. When there is an 18 year old Guy Lafleur on the block you have to make effort to get there. Not like chance of lottery like you claim. Even if he loses lottery we still get a hell of player. The '23 draft is stacked

The 2022 draft used to have Lambert, Wright and Savoie nose-to-nose as being superstars/near generational. Now, Lambert and Savoie dropped hard in the draft and scouts don't think Wright will be anything more than a 2nd line player.

People really need to stop overhyping draft, next year too, a month before the draft, the 2024 one will be considered better. It happens very year.

If Hughes thinks he is going to get to Finals without the top players he is in for rude awakening. Because his rivals will have them.

What the hell are you talking about? This management team has only been to one draft but you are talking as if you can see the future and know everything about how they operate. They will make moves for top players when they clean up the mess left behind by previous management and the team is ready to compete.

Kent Hughes will give you a call when he will need the expertise of a poster on HF Boards on how to manage a team.
Common sense need a star to win Cups. Just look at past Cup winners . Crosby, Kane, MacKinnon, Hedman, Ovechkin. Not rocket scientist.

This close to a Lafleur type, who would pass it up to finish 24th in league? Doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

Dach, Matheson and likely Drouin in near future, are good players. But complimentary players, not core players.

Again with you seeing into the future of the tenure of a GM that has not even been with the team for one full season. Just baseless conjecture.

Also the Canadiens landed Guy Lafleur thanks to some shrewd moves from Sam Pollock and not by finishing last.

HuGo are doing a good job. Obviously it is far from over but they took risk and went against consensus many times but it is clear they have set a structure to create a competitive team from the scouting to the development side to maximize cap space and to get player in the right age like Dach/Newhook.

I feel very confident with them at the helm. I feel there is finally a direction and cohesive plan.
