Not a terrible contract. He got better as the year went on.

Another great signing by Hextall. Very sensible on term and money for a good RHD in his prime years.

Cutting into 3 years of UFA is similar to paying:

1.7
3.9
3.9
3.9

I guess that is ok. Not great.

Pretty much a market value deal for a guy like Gudas. Paid like a 4th D-man. Performed at about that level or slightly above with the balanced negativity of anticipated suspensions over the life of this deal.

Not a bargain, not a bad deal. Fair.

That's pretty much what Gudas could have gotten on the UFA market. I still don't see him as a everyday top-4 D. Signing players after 1 good season based on potential seems more like a Paul Holmgren special than what Hextall has done before.

Its not cap crushing, it's pretty much is the ballpark of what we all expected, if you think he was signing for less than 3, that was probably never the case. It may be a year too long for my liking. But somebody has to be the Vet on this team when the kids arrive.

Great deal. One could argue that there's about 0.5 too much just because it's Hexy but it's great to have this kind of guy. One of my favorite Flyers for sure and I knew at the time of the trade that he was gonna be.

This is how you build D core and with 3.35M for your first vet D man to contend the Cup is great.

He would have gotten much more on the open market. Not many 26 year old, right hand shooting, top 4 quality defensemen become available.

If Hextall gets rid of MacDonald next year and Streit this year, nobody even gives a crap about the extra year or extra half mil.

But we have to wait and see on that.

How does Streit's last year here affect Gudas getting a 4th year?
