No way in hell is Miller signing the same deal as Kadri.
Agreed, JT is younger and has a more proven ppg rate than Kadri in the last 3 years. JT won't sign for under 8m... not in Canada anyway and likely not anywhere if he puts up ppg numbers this year and makes it to free agency.

Surprised Calgary went full term for Kadri, trying to win in near future and buyout Kadri later in his deal. Smart GMing by Montreal to get a 1st to take Monahan, looks like Montreal is going have a similar prospect pipeline like the NYR did when Gorton was the GM

Both players excelled last season. JT has been better past 3 seasons, age .. but both have bite and play a same style. I could see 6 x 8, 7 x7 .. i mean sorry man not every player in a cap game is getting 7 x 10 and crap like that. I find your position is unreasonable. 7 x 7 would be fair, slight SLIGHT under payment. Miller himself feels he wont get close to 100 again.

You are vastly understating the difference here. Miller has scored 60 more points over the last 3 seasons, while playing on a team that scored 120 less goals than Kadri's. The gap is significant, without even getting into the fact that Miller is younger.

Not sure the value is set at all. Just look at the last 20 trades. Every one is different value wise almost.

Every transaction these days, is specific to that transaction and the two teams involved. Obviously cap is the biggest thing messing with value right now. $5 million to Vegas isnt $5 million to Detroit or Anaheim. All kinds of issues arise in each deal.

So likely, to move Miller, the team getting him will need salary retained. Price just went up. But if Detroit gets him, price doesn’t go up.

It’s a strange time.

True facts... but you need to feild a winning team. No team has won the cup with a player signed to a deal 10 mil or over. So for Miller to sign say 9 to 10 million over what?? Huh ??? 5 or 6 years he best be top 5 in the NHL, which he is clearly not. A few players at 9.5 two I think have one a cup?

Again.... If Miller is willing to sign 7x7M, why would Vancouver move him? That's a great contract for him(Mind you I dont think he signs for 7M, closer to 8M).

The argument about "He doesn't fit our core" doesn't work when he's a player as good as he is(At least according to Canucks fans), if he's that good you do what you have to do to keep him and build around him. It's not like he's super old, still only 29. You trade Horvat and re-sign Miller, go with JT and Petey as the Top 6 Centers, with a combination of Boeser, Garland, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Mikheyev, and Kuzmenko as the Wingers in the Top 9.

If we can get Miller at around 7m we keep him. Worth more than traded with that extension.
If we can get him at that price, absolutely! He’s worth quite a bit more though. I’m hoping he’ll accept a slight bump over 7 and this saga will finally be over with

If keeping him was an option then he would never have been on the market at all.

He's leaving and we can't afford to lose him for free.

They are pretty comparable players IMO. Take out last year, and their careers are virtually identical. 0.637 PPG to 0.636 PPG.
Kadri plays on a more offensive team, no doubt, but that can hurt him because he won't get the same offensive opportunities as JT, who has become the go to guy in Vancouver.

The 2 year age gap is a difference, but IMO 7x7 is a slight overpayment for Kadri, and about right for Miller.

I think Miller (rightly) sees himself as more valuable than Kadri. He will be 1.5 years younger when the extension kicks in and produces at a better rate than Kadri. Kadri is better defensively but not enough to make up for the difference in production. I think Miller is looking for something like 8.5 x 8 but would probably settle for 8x8.

If the Canucks were in the same place competitively as Calgary, this would make sense. Just sign him and go for it now.

But the Canucks are not contenders. I'm not sure how the club would realistically expect to improve by doubling down on a mediocre roster - just at even more expensive prices.

Really, they need significant roster reconstruction.

But we’ve been told Vancouver “quietly” has the best forward group in the NHL and can “quietly” take the Pacific this year. Sounds like he’s the perfect fit.
