Rules Pertaining to Non-Expansion Team:
  1. A team may protect either:
    a. Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender
    b. Eight skaters (forwards and defensemen) and one goaltender
  2. All players who have currently effective and continuing "No Movement" clauses at the time of the Expansion Draft (and who I deem will decline to waive such clauses) must be protected (and will be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits)
  3. All first- and second-year North American professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits)
    a. In addition, all first-, second-, and third- year North American professional goalies are exempt from selection (seasons with less than 10 games played, like PTOs or ATOs at the end of a player's regular season in another league, don't count).
  4. The cap hit for 2018-2019 season will be $80m
  5. Picks past 2020 cannot be traded
  6. No single trade can include more than 3 players per side
  7. Star and untouchable players may not be traded (Crosby, etc.)
  8. I reserve the right to veto any trade (but don't worry, I'm not a fun police), so keep trades realistic
  9. PLEASENon-expansion teams may trade with expansion teams to protect players
  10. A GM may control multiple non-expansion teams, but only if we cannot find enough players to take a single team
  11. Feel free to PM me asking if a certain player will waive an NMC or NTC
  12. Feel free to re-sign players, but keep their contracts realistic
  13. Feel free to say a player will retire (Joe Thornton, Roberto Luongo, etc.)
  14. Please PM me when you make a trade so I can post/verify it
  15. Vegas is not protected from the draft
Rules Pertaining to Expansion Team Rules:
  1. Teams must select 30 players by the end of the expansion draft
  2. Teams must select a minimum of 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goaltenders
  3. Teams must select a minimum of 20 players who are under contract for the 2018-2019 season, unless no such players remain available
  4. Teams must have a total cap hit of at least $30m
  5. A maximum of 1 goalie, 3 defensemen, or 3 forwards for a total of five players may be selected from any single non-expansion team (i.e. a team could lose at most 3 forwards, 1 defenseman and 1 goalie; 3 defensemen and 2 forwards, etc.)
  6. Players on Long-Term Injured Reserve are exempt from selection, but may be traded for
  7. Expansion picks may be traded, but teams may only deal an equal number of picks (no team may have more or less than 30 picks)
  8. The draft will commence in snake order (1-2-3-4-5-5-4-3-2-1...) and the initial selection order will be selected once all five expansion GMs are confirmed
  9. When on the clock, a team must make their selection within 3 hours. If no pick is made within those 3 hours, I reserve an hour to make the expansion pick myself. If after those four hours, in total, any GM of a non-expansion team may make a pick for the expansion team that is on the clock
  10. The draft clock will run 8am-12pm EST
    a. Teams are welcome to post picks outside of the draft clock
  11. No team may select a second goalie until all five teams have selected at least one
  12. PM the next GM when you make your selection
  13. Feel free to rename your team
Schedule:
  1. Once all non-expansion teams are selected, teams have either 3 days or until all expansion teams are full (whichever comes later) to trade with other teams and post their protection lists
    a. If a team does not submit their protection list by the deadline, anyone not a GM of an expansion team may post a protection list for them
  2. Once all non-expansion teams have posted protection lists and all expansion teams have GMs, there will be a two day break to allow the expansion team GMs to assemble a list/rank available players
    a. I will PM the GMs of the expansion team when this happens
  3. The expansion draft will start at 12pm EST (noon) the day following this two day break (hopefully this Sunday)
    a. Again, I will PM the GMs of expansion teams
  4. Trades may not be announced until after all teams have GMs (to allow time for everyone to make deals)
  5. The entry draft will begin upon the conclusion of the expansion draft
  6. Deadlines:
    a. TBD
Entry Draft Rules
  1. The draft window will be from 9AM to 11PM ET
  2. Selection window will be 4-hours long
  3. Keep checking this thread of send me a note on who you want if you will be away
  4. If you miss the 4-hour window we will auto pick off NHL CSS Mid terms on a 3 NA to 1 EU ratio
  5. No goalies will be auto picked
  6. MAKE SURE YOU PM THE NEXT GM AFTER YOUR SELECTION IS MADE
Let me know if any of these rules don't make sense or are stupid, I'd be happy to change them before we get started!

Feel free to post to claim a team.

If you're the GM of a non-expansion team, PLEASE post a list of players that aren't protected, in addition to a list of players that are. This will make selection for the expansion teams much easier.

I'll be the Leafs

I would ask Patrick Marleau to waive his NMC, communicating that an expansion team wouldn't have much interest in a guy who's 39 before he even plays a game for you.

Can i get a verdict on that?

My gut says he wouldn't. He's on the final year(s) of his career, on a strong playoff team that he likes. Does that make sense? I'll let a few other people have their say (if they want) and just go with the majority opinion though.

I agree. I mean look how many players actually waived for Vegas, like 2-3

Can I pick Quebec, but change the team to a western city in Canada? Central team (with Chi, Peg, Dal etc...?)
Just because there's more eastern teams as of right now and i would love to have my hometown have a NHL team (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) Saskatoon Blades is the WHL team so I'd change the Blades to Blazers?

My gut says he wouldn't. He's on the final year(s) of his career, on a strong playoff team that he likes. Does that make sense? I'll let a few other people have their say (if they want) and just go with the majority opinion though.

I guess.. I just don't see why an expansion team would have any interest in a 39 year old player.

Sure you want veteran leaders but not a guy that's going to give you 1 maybe 2 seasons.

While the other mocks are winding down, I'd like to remind everyone that we still have 28 non-expansion teams left!
