Where have you been the last couple of years? He's quarterbacked the powerplay masterfully ever since they came up with the new system. I really don't get why people are confused that one of the best playmakers in the league is quarterbacking the powerplay.
In the past 5 seasons, the only person with more assists than Wheeler is Connor McDavid.
Fair enough, except that when the entire arena and opposing teams know the set up, where passes are going and how to defend it, that should be the time to add options and/or change it up with either positional set up and/or personnel.
The fact that upwards of 90% of the time Wheeler attempts a pass to the shooter means he SHOULD accumulate alot of assists.
But the fact that Wheeler struggles to handle the puck without looking at it or while moving you would think would have Maurice adopt alternate options including a guy like Ehlers who is a spectacular puckhandler and skater.
