Enjoy the regular season and the indvidual player accomplishments, as they are likely to be the only joy we have as Caps fans.
We enjoy it as much as Ovechkin enjoys this goal right here:

I think it's time we acknowledge that Niskanen is the #1 on this team, not Carlson.
He is, because he's consistent. Great signing.
That said, it wouldn't be the first season when Carlson plays like trash in the RS and improves in the PO.

Carlson always starts slow. This is a team of inertia and habits. If someone converts that to positive momentum they will be unstoppable.

Maybe Carly still traumatized by the experience of being coached by Torts at WC.
Mostly think it's adjusting to Orly - you can see Carlson wants to let Orly jump up in the attack, without sacrificing Carly's own aggressiveness and offensive prowess. And so he seems caught more times betwixt and between (though the shorty Thursday was just pure deep)

Carlson does start slow. Last season at this time Holtby was HOLEby and Carlson was getting booed around here.

That said it will be worth watching to see if Carlson is still feeling his injury.
