What's with all the one year, 2 way deals? Hasn't anyone from St. John's earned a little more?

Anyways this leaves Chiarot & Frolik as our remaining RFA's.

All three become group 6 UFA's next summer if they don't play enough games in the NHL this coming year. O'Dell needs to play 50, Cormier 31 and Albert 71 otherwise they follow Zach Redmond down the UFA road.

Frolik will sign this coming week or early next week. That only leaves Chiarot to sign.

God I hope someone else signs Wright soon, otherwise he'll show up to camp in September.

Why would you sign a guy to a one-way deal when you hold all the leverage and can sign him to a two-way deal?

You'd rather pay full NHL salary if the guy ends up in the AHL?

With regards to Albert I'm shocked and awed he has an NHL deal. Cormier yeah two-way.

For O'Dell I cannot believe management wouldn't commit to him with a one-way deal. Complete slap in the face to yet another prospect we'll eventually force out of the organization, IMO.

With the numbers that some of these guys put up in the Calder Cup run, I doubt that many of them clear waivers. With all the guys that got contracts with other teams this year, I think Chevy realized that these guys are playable/movable assets now in other teams eyes. He now has some additional players for a multi-player trade. Here's hoping!

This is incorrect. Albert only has one season under NHL contract, to qualify for Group VI he needs three. Ironically by the time he has three seasons is the same time he qualifies for regular UFA.

He's also waiver exempt for one more year. This is probably why he was given an NHL contract. 25, under control for 2-3 more seasons, and waiver exempt for one more. He's a hybrid AHL vet and prospect.

As truck has noted, most if not all the signings are actually under their qualifying offers.

Of all the players that Chevy signed to two way deals, are there any others besides Albert that are waiver exempt? It seems that Chevy is sending these prospects the message that if they play well enough this year, they get a real shot at an NHL job, on this team or another. That has to be encouraging for a guy that has spent a long time at an AHL level. It's the other part of the draft and develop mantra that has to be working to keep players believing.

So pretty much Albert will be a UFA

The quick and easy rule is ELC = waiver exempt, SPC = waivers. But this isn't always true with players signing contracts later in their careers(Redmond, Albert), or delays in their careers (O`Dell)

Capgeek is the resource to go for waivers, they will tell you if they're exempt and how much longer.

edit: Three AIH articles:

Jets sign John "Pure energy" Albert

Jets sign Patrice Cormier

Jets sign Eric O`Dell

Chevy fires these off on Friday afternoon so he can buzz of to the cabin for a few days or weeks no doubt.

Leaves the admin back to do paper work and communications on the Saturday ...

Article 10 of the CBA outlines the conditions of Group 6 free agents as follows:

Group 6 Free Agents.
(i) Means any Player who is age 25 or older who has completed three (3) or
more professional seasons, whose SPC has expired and: (i) in the case of a
Player other than a goaltender, has played less than 80 NHL Games, or (ii)
in the case of a goaltender, has played less than 28 NHL Games (for the
purpose of this definition, a goaltender must have played a minimum of
thirty (30) minutes in an NHL Game to register a game played). For the
purposes of the foregoing, the term professional season shall: (A) for a
Player aged 18 or 19, mean any season in which such Player plays in
eleven (11) or more Professional Games (including NHL Regular Season
and Playoff Games, minor league regular season and playoff games, and
games played in any European professional league, while under an SPC),
and (B) for a Player aged 20 or older, mean any season in which such
Player plays in one or more Professional Games (including NHL Regular
Season and Playoff Games, minor league regular season and playoff
games, and games played in any European professional league, while
under an SPC).

I see nothing there that says your three years under a NHL contract. It's 3 professional seasons.

Like the O'Dell signing a lot, really think he will play the full season with the Jets next year. Dont think Albert or Cormier deserved NHL contracts though.

The franchise has spent a fair number of development dollars on Cormier - if nothing else happens with him, he's still a possible throw-in asset for a trade. JMO.

Very true. They could both be pieces in an upcoming trade. Both are solid AHL players and could be attractive players to teams with weak AHL squads.

Cormier is not worth anything at all in a trade. He has already cleared waivers and will again clear waivers this fall. There's no worth in a guy who is waiver eligible, is cheap and consistently clears waivers.

AHL vets are like 20 dimes a dozen. No worth at all.

Yep. Why would anyone value him in a trade if no one would take him for free?
