Although the players on Pens and Isles may dislike each other strongly, that should not extend to GM and owners level. Isles and Rags are competing for fans in the NYC area and a Rag SC win now will make it tougher for Isles to gain fans from the NY Metro areas. They would care less about Pens win another Cup as Pens will always be a top contender until one of Crosby or Malkin start to decline and that will not be for a while especially now they have improve the team with a strong supporting cast and a very good coaching staff.

If a trade will mutually benefit both teams between Pens and Isles it should be considered. It would be a bit different trading between Isles and NJ, Carolina, Flyers and even some of the upcoming Atlantic division teams as Isles will be competing for playoff spot with those teams for years to come.

Halak has almost lived his whole career off his reputation with MTL when he stonewalled Washington back in what? 2010?

He then went to STL where he put up good split time numbers for the most part under Hitch but even Hitch clearly never trusted him (along with Elliott and Allen).

He clearly stepped away from a goalie friendly system in STL and has struggled with NYI

As jet fan I would have no problem taking Halak. Waive Hutch, if we loose him, we loose him, and play Halak/Helle.
(Maybe trade Hutch to Kings for cond pick)

A kick in the teeth for Halak, and maybe more his agent...no takers for free!!

Most teams dont want to take a player clearly struggling (hence the waivers) at a full cap hit. Teams often circle back when a player clears and asks the other team if they are willing to eat money for basically a nothing return just to take him off their hands

...except this year is the only year where he's really struggled with NYI. His numbers the last 2 years with NYI are pretty much in line with his career averages and what you'd expect of a goalie of his caliber and salary.

He hasn't "lived his whole career" off that one playoff with MTL, he's been a pretty serviceable goalie wherever he's gone, even if his career hasn't lived up to the hype that playoff performance may have promised and he's never really been able to cement himself as a true #1.

That's just nonsense, he had plenty of good to great years since then.
Uh, no he didn't.

He was a product of STL's low-shot system. But if you watched the games he was never close to being great. That's why the Blues had to turn to Elliott (because Halak couldn't even stay healthy) and then Ryan Miller. He was never the answer for anyone and it's pretty obvious.

Pretty much sums it up.. He's serviceable but never quite #1 Territory.

He was absolutely good for the isles for the first year. Got a load of wins with useless backups that year.

Low shot totals will deflate a goalie's SV%, hence why his SV% in 12-13 was so low.

I remember after MTL long run in 2010, when Halak was the savior of this team. People were like : "No!! Trade Price, not Halak. Price sucks. Look at what Halak has done, and what price has done?" Etc. Etc.

Today, who's arguably the best goalie in the league/world? Carey Price
