Doughty must go to LTIR and come back near the end of the season.

Admittedly, I don't know exactly how the numbers are calculated, but I believe this would give LA the cap flexibility to add a goalie and center without weakening other parts of the roster.

There is no other way to make this team into a contender.

Then you have to look at the reason why.
Doughty is part of the problem, not the solution

The team and coaching staff as is can add or substract whatever player and it doesn't change anything.
We need a new coaching approach which requires a statement about the teams target.
If Playoff are the target, we need to groom our youngsters in the AHL, if finishing the rebuild is the target, Kopitar and Doughty must go.

As long as there is no clear way forward, we don't need to take part in any of the LTIR nonsense

Doughty actually has to have an injury for the Kings to overestimate his return.

Then the Kings need to make the playoffs.

Is Tonya Harding's ex out yet?

DD is showing signs of a depressionary mid life crisis.

He need a mental heath professional that specializes in long term treatment that involves removing the individual from his stressful work environment for several months.
After which he is reintegrated into his work environment over the course of a one month period.

Aside from Richards, who was signed to a questionable contract with Philadelphia, who else was on cap-circumventing contracts?
Carter

Edit: Quick was on a 10 year contract that dove the last 3 years. They got that in just before the change I believe.

How are they cap-circumventing just because they are longer than what the league allows now?

They played out their contracts.
King's used long contracts to drop cap hits and fit more talent on the roster. Knights used LTIR to do the same thing.

No point worrying about it. Either GM's should choose to close the loophole or look to use that loophole.

The cap circumventing contacts are not close to the same bullshit the LTIR is. Every team could offer the same type off contract. Teams were cap compliant.

This garbage requires a significant "injury" that is magically gone in time for the playoffs so you can actually have a roster with a cap hit well over the maximum amount.

The cap is going to be around 90M in 2024-25.

So now is a good time to sign long term contracts before the cap jumps.

Doughty on LTIR gives you the flexibility to add one of the top goalies on the market, and make a significant contract offer to a UFA like Soucy without losing an import piece on the roster like Arvidsson/Iafallo/Roy.

The cap problem could have been avoided if Blake had the guts to trade Kopitar years ago. As @KINGS17 suggested every day practically at that point.

At the time we acquired Danault and drafted a bunch of centers in the top echelon of the draft, there was no rhyme or reason to the roster construction. There were two critical points in this Bluc era. One was the decision not to move Kopitar AND drafting centers in the top echelon of the draft, and adding Danault. The other was drafting centers despite it not being a massive hole and passing on the obvious offensive firepower like Stutzle and Caulfield over the years.

Do you think Mark Stone faked having back surgery?

Nobody has said that.

But he arguably could have come back sooner.

According to whom? Dr. King'sPawn MD?

I understand the LTIR stuff is a known loophole, and has been clearly utilized to the benefit of multiple Cup winning teams. But without clear evidence that teams are outright faking injuries, or "holding back" recovered players, this just turns into screeching "cheater" at other teams. It's the most monkey brained, tribal BS sports fans engage in.

Again, every team is looking to exploit loopholes in the cap. Drawing some arbitrary line of distinction between LA's cap circumvention and Vegas's cap circumvention is ridiculous. The Kings directly benefited from multiple cap circumventing contracts during their championships. Have some self awareness.
